Please share your driving to WDW from NY experiences

We are doing the trek from NY to WDW which we have done many times before. (I hate to fly) Typically we leave at 5:30 at night and drive straight through until we arrive at our resort. This works out great for us because you miss the dreaded DC traffic but last year it was absolute misery driving through the night. This year I would like to drive to Brunswick, Georgia and stay in a hotel. We can get up early and head to WDW and arrive not feeling like zombies or the great unwashed.
I was considering leaving my house at 4am which would probably put us in DC around 10. Will I miss the major traffic that late in the morning?


My next question has to do with a trip route. I am 15 minutes from the PA border so I could do the 84 to 81 route and I think miss DC entirely. Does that route waste a lot of time taking me in the wrong direction before I actually start heading south? All of the driving direction searches have me going through NJ and taking a seemingly more direct route. Any opinions, please?

I live 30 min North of Philadelphia and have done this road trip too many times to count. We always just get on I-95 and drive straight through to WDW. Driving during the night of course. You just need to make sure you miss the DC traffic and sometimes the traffic around Richmond Va can be just as bad. We try to get past all of this area by 5am. I've heard the other routes take much longer. AAA will map it out for you if you're a member. Good luck and have a safe trip. We'll be flying this year and I'm really not looking forward to it. The drive is half the fun!
