Not Disney, but this board helped me through three trips and hoping I'll get info from other traveller's again.

My husband and I are booked at an all inclusive in Costa Rica over March break. Like most, this was a rebooked 2020, than 2021 vacation..so ya we are ready to go despite the germs.

My insurance is great I can cancel as close as the 8th of March and get the credit. We purchased quarentine insurance as well so if we get an on site positive we have $400/day towards isolating. I've saved two weeks pay incase of that loss. Lol guess that's the positive to having two years of saving.

So ya on paper and finance wise we look great...but that doesn't mean alot for the stress. I work within a public school so obviously the idea of leaving my team short two weeks would add a ton of stress on me.

I'd love first hand or close to you stories of that worse case. Recent out of Canada vacations (preferably not U.S. as I know guidelines are different) positive test. How did you get through?

Actually even to compare. How many left, returned, enjoyed and didn't have a positive?

Anything missing in my plan if I do decide to just go?

Anyone aware of today's travel isolation rules? Is it 2weeks isolation? 10days? 5? We will both have our booster by than, but sure that matters.

Thank you and welcome to 2022 😀

Starting in mid-January, you can fly after 10 days.
Each country would have different isolation rules (heck we have different rules in each province!) In the US you have to isolate for 5, mask for 5.

Not worse case, but we went to the Bahamas in September (feels like a lifetime ago now), tested negative and came back. It was our first trip since everything, and it was amazing and so needed.

Hopefully by the Time you go in March things will have settled down, and you won’t have to worry as much about a positive test.

I feel the 72h testing before departure is not going to ease anytime soon. I am hoping maybe the herd immunity/chance of getting this varient will slow. I will even feel a little better if they make the 5day before flying with a positive official in Canada.

I do like hearing that people are able to enjoy travel again!

Hi, we just returned from a week in cancun. We left a few days after the advisory warning and it was too late to cancel without losing our vacation funds invested. Like you, we had the 400.00 a day quarantine insurance and medical as well. We are a family if 4, 2 adults and kuds aged 16 and 8.

We masked in all indoor settings and some outdoor (crowded outdoor Lobby, etc) and tried to maintain distance. We chose to not leave the resort until we completed our PCR tests on day 5. We all tested negative and felt relief knowing we could board our flight back to Canada.

The last 2 days, we continued to be safe but not vigilant. We did get selected at the airport in montreal for random testing, all negative for day 1 testing and day 8 testing as well.

Overall it was an amazing vacation. Honestly did not feel any different from our previous all inclusive vacations we’ve done in the past, aside from mask wearing of course. Now we did plan for an emergency by booking a another hotel (suite) with 2 bedrooms incase one or more of us tested positive. We canceled as soon as our negative results came in.

I feel it all comes down to comfort. We are youngish parents with no known health issues, double vaccinated, therefore we felt confident in travelling. Both hubby and I are able to work from “home” so worse case, we would have done so from Cancun while in quarantine.

I hope my story helps. I have no regrets and would do it again in a heartbeat if we could.

My sister and her husband went to Mexico while my mom came to their house and looked after their son. They did the pre flight back test which was negative but both came home with sore throats. Somehow avoided taking a test at the airport after landing (thanks Calgary). Instead of being smart and avoiding my mom (who has a heart condition) and their son, they just came home. My mom and nephew left the next day to spend some pre-Christmas time having fun. Three days later my mom had a sore throat. By the next day she was really sick. My nephew ended up with it as well but only minor cold symptoms. I am so angry at my sister and her husband and their selfish behaviour. My mom spent Christmas sick and alone in isolation. Thank goodness she had all three shots so she managed to avoid needing to be in the hospital. She is doing better now and we are hoping her January heart surgery will go ahead and not be cancelled again.

If you do travel, please don't be around vulnerable people until you are sure you aren't sick. What may be an inconvience for you can be a real threat to the vulnerable. Oh, and rapid tests are not as reliable since many people don't take them propertly so don't count on them to tell you you are safe.
