We have a trip planned for may with our gang of eight celebrating twin nephews 1st BD/ DH 30th BD / and mothers day. we are all excited but I have been on fer. meds. and it looks like it worked this time. :cool1: But I am going to be considered "high risk" GRRRRRR. I am now having a debate with my sister (who just had twins last year) as of the safety of the whole trip. I will only be 4 months and i think i can handle it. this is too big of a trip to cancel. The boys will only turn 1 once and DH will only be 30 once! How do i convice her that it will be alright???

First, please talk to your doctor. I know there are a lot of first but any risk is too great.

I did go to WDW when pregnant with DS. I was 5 or 6 mths along. I was blessed with very easy pregnancies. My DD traveled a ton while on the inside! As for Disney I did a few of the rides I probably shouldn't have but didn't think. I enjoyed myself and DH got to do the single rider a lot. It was fine.

I went to Vegas while pg with DD, now that was hard! At Disney I didn't feel like I was missing anything at all. It was wonderful. We planned out a lot we'd do with the kids once both were older.

I went pregnant. I was 4-5 months along. JUST rest the first day you arrive. Of Course I was excitted the first day of arrival and over did it. Was sick that night and of course scared. Be Prepared for everyone to ask you constantly are you ok. Don't push it!!! I went with my whole family too and that's the only reason I went while I was pregnant. I'm glad I didn't miss it. But it was not the best trip for me and my partner constantly watching the feet swell and making sure I was eating properly, resting properly.

I'm going at the end of April, and I'll be about 6 months. I plan on resting the first day, and since my little one will only be 4, and he still naps, I plan on napping with him. I also plan on breaks every day, mid-day, and swims every day to help "take the load off" if ya know what I mean. I will not do a hot tub, but I may soak my feet in one. I will drink a ton of water, have 1 sit down meal per day to relax, and just take it easy.

I think I'm lucky in that I've been there sooo much, I don't think I'll feel like I'm missing anything. We took DS last year when he was 3, so he won't miss anything either. We can just hit his favorites and try a few new things, and go slow. No biggie.

I can't wait...it gives me an excuse to slow down and enjoy at a slower pace.

Good luck to you...and I'm sure you know to talk to your doctor before you decide anything. Congratulations to you, by the way!

I hate replying to these posts and almost never do because no one wants to hear it but as you are in a similar situation to me, please talk to your doctor. I had a high risk pregnancy and had a miscarriage at Disney at the GF. My family doctor said it was fine to go but once I returned My ob/gyn doctor was concerned about it and told me not to fly while pregnant. (now we have the most adorable little princess princess: ). Is it possible for you to drive with lots of rest stops? Anyway - please be good to yourself and do check. Congratulations and very best wishes!

I was six months pregnant last summer at WDW. Obviously I couldn't participate in many attractions, etc. I basically tried to take it easy and not walk all day (did parks in the morning). My feet were very swollen by the end of the week and it lasted for another 4 days after I got home. Walking and heat probably contributed to the swelling. Other than that, it was fine. Wasn't my best trip though.

If you are on fert. meds., is there a chance of multiples? I think it also depends on when you are going? If its hot there is a greater chance of getting dehydrated. That causes contractions. I cant see the doctor letting you go to disney. I was high risk with twins. I wasnt allowed to do anything. I dont want to be a downer. They tell you are high risk for a reason. You probaly will have a normal pregnancy!!!! But you do have a greater chance of problems. Do you really want to take that chance????

I went when I was about three months pregnant. I took it very easy and didn't go on any questionable rides. We went in early May when the weather wasn't too hot, which was nice. I did not have a high risk pregnancy.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. Sure a Disney trip is awesome, but the health of your baby is more important.

Talk to your doctor & take their advice! If Doctor says "No", then that means No. Don't take it as a suggestion.

I know you are going for a special occasion. But you are considered high risk. It obviously took some work & time for you to get pregnant in the first place. You would not want to risk that just for a trip to Disney World.

Do what is best for you and the baby.

Let your nephew and his family enjoy his first birthday. I know your DH wont mind missing Disney World for his 30th. After all he is missing it because you are having his baby!

Do what is safest & best for you and baby. And then plan a trip after baby is born.

High Risk means high risk. Don't risk that baby! Disney WOrld will always be there later.

First of all, congrats on the pregnancy!
I went to WDW in 2003 while 4 months along with twins. I was in good shape to start with and my OB and perinatologist both gave me the thumbs up about going, along with the advice to take it easy and stay hydrated. I also brought along photocopies of my medical records just in case I had any complications.
We had a wonderful trip, I felt great the entire time. Because twins are a high risk pregnancy to begin with, I wouldn't have gone if I had been any farther along than I was. I would go along with whatever your doctor suggests.

eta- We are taking our twin daughters to WDW this December for their first trip (since they've been born. lol)

I wouldn't do it, frankly. I'm usually in the group that always chimes in "Just Go!" whenever someone comes on worried about going while pregnant, or with a baby, or whatever. But I think it is different if you are high risk. I have been pregnant, with a non-high risk pregnancy, and I had fun but it was trying-- the walking, the weather, the food... and I did build in "rest time" but when you get peaked in the middle of say, the Magic Kingdom you can't just retire to your bedroom, it is kind of an ordeal to return to the hotel. I think going with a non-risk pregnancy is challenging enough. I think high-risk... well, it isn't worth the risk.

Good luck and congratulations!!!!!!

I went last month at 3 months pg and had no problems. However, I did not do many of the rides, and took lots of breaks while my husband and others rode the big stuff (I took my almost 3 yr old on some tame rides or just sat and waited for the guys when my son napped). It was warm then, but I found shady spots to rest. I drank lots of water, visited the bathrooms a lot more often, and ate what I could stomach. Im considered high risk this time, but only because of my age (right on the border-conceived at 34, but will deliver at 35). If it had been a summer trip, I woudlve said no way am I going as I cant stand the humidity (and dont plan on going out much this spring and summer)! Be sure to check it out with your dr. If flying, be sure to get up and walk around every 30 minutes to prevent blood clots, and drink lots of water (you might want to bring your own too after all the reports about airline water). If driving, like we did, I was told to stop every hour or so and walk around to keep blood circulating. Be sure to pick up a Brita water bottle (with filter at Walmart) as many cant stand the taste of FL water and buying it in the parks can get $$. Also, Crystal Light came out with one serving packets in Lemonade and Rasberry that worked great.

I have to agree that I would go with whatever your doctor says. Just the words "high risk" would wig me out. I went at 32 weeks - had a great time. Took it easy, etc. I stayed off anything questionable and really soaked up the ambiance and did a lot of shopping. If I had done anything questionable and something had happened I would have blamed myself - and no one could have convinced me otherwise. As it was I took great care of myself while there and had a trip to remember. If your doctor feels like the trip will be fine and you are comfortable with it - well only you can make that decision. But I would seriously consider anything the doctor tells you. Believe me - after trying to get pregnant for well over a year that baby was the most important thing in the world to me (I'm not saying your baby isn't - I know he/she is) - there will be lots of trips to Disney with baby. Good luck!!

I guess it the reason you are high risk would mater and if the situation was under control. If you are high risk just because you are over a certin age, but are otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry about it as much as other reasons (diabeties or other illnesses) I think listening to you Dr. goes with out saying and you don't need me to repete that. :D

Your sister had twins. Is there any reason to belive you might be too. If so things might be different. (time will tell.)

However I will tell you my WDW pregnant stories. 1st I am always sick as a dog pregnant, but there is never anything wrong with me really and the baby is perfectly heatlhy. I just thow up many many many times. 2nd pregnancy I did take a medicaiton called Zofran that helped.

Ok 1st trip I was 32 weeks pregnant. We had a great time. It was Feb and rather cool. While I missed just laying in the sun, I think it was better for my health this way. Felt great the whole trip. I wouldn't go much later then this.

2nd trip I was 8 weeks in Jan (just found out, trip was planned well before I got pregnant.) However as I mentioned I am a "all the time" sickness not just morning sickenss person. However the week at WDW was an expection. I felt great.

3rd trip was not to WDW but Vero Beach for week and Orlando for a few days. This was 26 weeks in May. This was a great trip and a good time to go. (we are going back to WDW and Vero beach in May again, but this time with a 9 month old and a 4 year old!)

So you have a few thing going for you I think. Time of the trip (May good time, not tooo hot, low crowds normally. It might be higher this year because of the 50th celebration.) 4 months. Good time to go. Far enough long to be into second trimester, not so far that you are too far along or uncomfortable. Far enough to know if you are having twins too. :D

Make sure you can cancel your plans just in case as time goes Dr. feels it would be better for you not to travel.

I think that if you are going to travel 4 months is a good time to do so. May is a great time of year.

And most importantly.......... Congradluations! :Pinkbounc

One more thing-be sure to stay out of the sun as much as possible, or cover up with a hat and sunscreen. Being pregnant and out in the sun can lead to a funky facial look called the mask of pregnancy! Ive never had it, but supposedly the pigment in your face reacts with the sun differently when pregnant and you can develop a mask looking brown area/rash.

First of all, check with your doctor. Your doctor knows your situation best.

I went to WDW when I was 8 weeks and again at 6/7 months pregnant. Any morning sickness I was feeling and lack of appetite disappeared when I was down there. I felt wonderful. There are only about 11 rides (or so) you can't go on. I also felt great the second trip. I was a little slower, but otherwise, I felt great.
