It's one of the 2 newest resorts, has a great location, 2nd longest length of contract, fabulous pool, excellent resturants, gives you the best discount of any resort, and I own there as well lol. What else could you ask for ahahah!!

If you haven't found it www.walkjogrun.net is great - its a google mashup - you can figure out the distances to somewhere. That not only gives you a clue about the distances, but an idea (with a satalite photo) of what the walk will be like - will you be walking next to road on on paths.

I was SHOCKED to discover that I liked the walking at SSR more than the spread out OKW - because OKW doesn't have adequate walking paths - I was always walking by the side of the road. Where SSR does have generally good paths.

I would have to agree with you. We love to take advantage of the main pool when we're at Disney. Wouldn't you know our stays at SSR & OKW we were pretty far from the main pool. At OKW we felt like their wasn't a good path to walk and we drove our car. At SSR the walk to the pool was quite pleasant (we were in Congress Park). We liked both resorts but the walking at SSR was more enjoyable.

You can see the roads, but usually in the distance and separated by fields or lakes. The whole design is made to make you want to go out for a stroll.

We are a family that have been DVC members since almost the beginning. We looked into DVC from day 1, but decided to wait to purchase a membership once Boardwalk Villas opened. We knew that a DVC resort in the Epcot area was where we wanted to be,
Since then, we have been around for ALL the debates about the DVC resorts. It is always the same, with just different DVC resorts being compared/bashed/put down, at various times.
All DVC resorts are wonderful, but are all very different. You have decide which resort is the best fit for you. Then run with it!!
Without a doubt---buy a home resort that fits you! As DVC continues to grow and grow; this is becomes more of a necessity.
If you do not care which resort you stay at---then I would go with whichever resort you can get the best value for your money. However, if you decide to go this route--you must be prepared to not have your preference of resorts, most times. Something very important to consider. Good luck!!

I didn't stay at either resort, but I was at Orlando for a conference. I've been to WL and BC - we own Boardwalk - so I thought I'd give OKW and SSR a "fair chance, low risk" look see.

This was without going into rooms mind you - and the big selling point with OKW is, of course - big rooms and big balconies.

I stopped by OKW first. The CMs were all really friendly and it did feel very resorty. I loved the atmosphere of the resort, much more than I thought I would. I didn't like the fact that I was walking on the street and getting a face of bus fumes regularly - it shocked me since that is the sort of complaint I would have thought would have come up here.

I then swung downriver to SSR. I was blown away by the pool, but the feeling of community that really did exist at OKW was no where to be found. The pool was too small and this was the morning when there should have been a lot of people in the parks. The restaurant was also too small (Artists Palate, Turf Club wasn't open). But all the pubic areas were gorgeous. Walking was easy with the paths and green areas - though it was very spread out.

I then went over to BWV which is home for us and felt like home. BWV did feel shabby - and always does to me (can they do something with the ladies bathroom stalls so they aren't constantly covered in twelve layers of white paint and seventeen layers of grimy handprints - its gross!) BW doesn't have the community feeling of OKW, but its surprisingly quieter and more removed with so little traffic near the building and no roads running through the resort.

After much thought, I have decided to go with either another BWV resale( I just passed ROFR yesterday on my 35 pt contract) for 100 pts, or I asked my guide to advise regarding waiting list for the points through Disney. Eventually I would love to own VWL as well. After my recent stay there, I really liked the fact that everything was fairly close together. Restaurants, gift shop, arcade, pool. Of course the Villas are not attached to the main buildings, but at least once you walk over to the main building, you can get around without having to go outside(except for pool) which made it great on those days when it was pouring outside! It looks to me as if the BW is similar to this, in that the building are connected.

My only question regarding BWV is whether you can get to all the Boardwalk facilities from inside. Whenever I go there, it seems like all the entrances to the shops are on the Boardwalk. Only thing I found indoors was the little gift shop by the BWV elevators.

excellent choice! But I am bias, as a BCV owner, you just can't go wrong with this entire area at the Boardwalk. You will so happy!

You can't - the only resort where you CAN get from the Villas to everything is BCV - VWL is a covered walkway - BWV/SSR/OKW you'll get wet if its raining and you want to go grab a bite.

Ah, I see. I do remember that covered walkway before the bus stop near the Villas at WL. Well I think the location of BWV with respect to Epcot makes up for the lack of connectivity of shops and restaurants.

I must say that everyone on these boards has been really helpful! Over the years since I have been a member of DIS ( and before it was called that) I have really learned a lot. I have tried to help others out with questions on other forums. DVC however, is very new to me and I thank you all for your patience!

SSR was the first DVC we ever laid eyes on and this is the resort we bought into. To date it is the best resort experience we have had to date (We visit WDW 2 times a year). I like the fact that SSR is practically a brand new resort and was not converted. New, from the ground up. All the furnishings are fantastic, Thomasville furniture , granite counter tops, etc. The rock pool is one of the most beautiful pools I have ever seen, my wife absolutely can't say enough good things about the spa, and the excercise room is one of the better ones I have worked out in. Distance from Downtown Disney is less than a 5 minute walk if you are staying a Congress Park (Yes, I timed it!). We have also noticed that SSR has a dedicated bus system, like OKW. If you stay at the boardwalk for example you have to share transportation with Swan and Dolphin, Beach Club Villas, and the Yacht Club. It seems to take forever to get anywhere. All in all to my family and I we feel that SSR is one of the best representations of a Disney Resort has to offer.
