Well, our trip is down to 17 days and today hubby was late for work(he took the shuttle and the JERK didn't take him straight there and he was around 5 mins late), they have a policy if you are late or you miss a day you are wrote up...2 write ups in a month and you have no job. Well, this would be his first but, since we were planning on him taking two days off for our trip-that would be his second. Please hope that he doesn't get wrote up for today. So far nothing but he still has 3 and a half hrs to go. I am just hoping since I called them they let him go(they also know about the trip...so hoping that they will look the other way).
We already postponed once...and since the girls start school the week after we get back...not sure when we could reschedule if we have to. I know his write ups have to be in differnt months but, not sure if it's monthly or a 30 day period. If it's the month thing and we have to reschedule...we could just go 4 days later as the write up wouldn't be til August. If it is 30 days...it will be Christmas before we get there. :(

BTW, in case you are wondering Hubby works for a Temp company here. He works 9 months on 3 months off and that is why they have the write up rules they do-too many people here need jobs that are willing to work if the others are not. This is his 2nd time working the 9 month thing. And yes he could get a permanent job-but, NONE of the permanent jobs here pay nearly as much as his does even with the 3 months on unemployment. Kinda sad huh??? I wish the original company would just hire the temp guys full time, but it is more expensive for them to do that...another sad thing.

Anyway, if you made it this far....thank you and please please cross your fingers for us. Hopefully we will know tonight.

I'm confused :confused3 Has he asked to take the days off for your vacation, or was he just planning on not showing up? If he asked to take them off and was approved, I'd think that certainly wouldn't result in a write-up for not coming in?

I'm confused too. Usually a couple of days off, scheduled in advance, doesn't count against anyone's attendance record. But you know your situation, so here's hoping everything works out well for you!:thumbsup2

Yep, he has asked for them off...and yes it will result in a write up. They do not allow days to be missed. They write you up for any missed days and 2 write ups in a month and you are gone. Also he loses his bonus which is $1.00 or more per hour. Guess that is what happens when you work as a Temp. The only good thing is that no matter how many days you miss in a row it is only 1 write up. So, him missing 2 days for vacation only counts as one. But, if today counts against him..then that would be 2. Totally hate this company-but, like I said it pays WELL. And if he could get on with the actual company(this is the only way to do it) it pays even better and he will have sick days, vacation, etc.

On a better note, even if he doesn't get hired this time around, he will be completing his college degree in May so, he will be able to get a job in his chosen profession(which btw does not pay as well as this job but, at least it would be permanent and give benifits and vacation etc.)

Wanted to say thanks to all who read my post. I really needed to vent. Anyway dh said that even if they write him up his boss is gonna help him. So glad I don't have to worry. Unfortunately after this weekend I may no longer have a job. Hope that is not the caae but if it is I will manage. Just been a really bad couple days.

as much as I hate my job I always remind myself that I'm there for the freedom..I don't think I even have a personnel file and haven't had an evaluation in the 6 years I've been there...

:( I would still be scared if he did get written up for yesterday. When is his 3 months off, could you reschedule for then and not have to worry about all these weird requirements?

Unfortunately we can't or should I say we don't want to. We had to do this in the summer because he is only off when the kids are in school. My daughter(oldest) got perfect attendance(and won a WII for it). My girls love school and I am not one for them missing(especially not that many days).

Thanks. I was going to start looking for a new job when I got back. So it's not like I love my job. But, last night was so stressful. Things like this never happen but, it did. I can't sleep today because of it. I would like to just have a job where I can leave work at work...and this is not that job. I left a job before this as a manager because I was stressed out about never being able to not be on the job...and it paid alot better. So, I think it is definately time to move on...just hope they let me wait til I get back....and don't fire me first.

Great to hear at least the first part.

Sounds like a rough time. I hope you're able to just enjoy your vacation without a bunch of stuff hanging over your head. Good news about DH though. I hope all turns out well.

What state do you live in? I am in California. And is sounds like you might be as well. I do not believe that it is legal for a company to give you any grief for being 5 minutes late. I am trying to remember how the time frame works. But there is a certain time frame for being late, or leaving early or late I believe it is, in Ca. where it cannot be held against you. Temp agency or not, a company is a company. I will attempt to further look into this subject. I just need to know your state please.
And....... don't worry about anything, for it is not good for your health. I personally have pretty much given up worrying for Lent. And decided since I like that idea so much, that I will continue on that path.
Have a really awesome time with your family at the land!

When I lived in Cali a few years ago, there was a rumor about such a law, but it did not actually exist. Unless they have passed it recently, I am pretty sure that is just a myth :)

If you do find anything in the labor law, let us know... would be interesting to to see :)

If you are late, you are late. California is no exception. Disney uses a point system for CMs and even 5 minutes late can earn you a point.

There is no CA requirement for earned vacation time either.

When you are working for an agency you are employed by the agency. If the company that the agency contracts with doesn't want you to work there anymore, they pick up the phone and call the agency and you no longer work there. There doesn't have to even be a reason. What happens next depends on your contract with the agency. In some cases they will try and find you other work. In other cases, you remain in their files until something else comes up. Otherwise, you're on your own.

I really hope the OP gets to take their Disney vacation without worry! That is one of the significant downsides to working as contract labor. It can be financially lucrative, but there are risks. Wishing you luck!!

We liven AZ...a right to work state...so even at my job...I could be fired for being 5 mins late and have no grounds to stand on. I know if few employers in this area that pay unemployment to ther employees...hubbys company is one of them.

I realize it falls on hubby to be on time...just upset it was not in his control. Leaving 30 mins early for a less than 15 minute drive, he should have been on time.

I have switched shuttle companies now. And I am now the one taking it(gave hubby the car) so I know it won't happen again.

I am still upset that this happened. But, have decided that it's in the past and I need to just let it go. There is no way to change it now.
