I bought the Memory Maker for my trip next week, do I have to do something prior to getting to WDW or will it activate when the first picture is taken?

Memory Maker is a photo download package, you will activate it when you go to download your photos. Photopass is the service that takes the photos, that is free and nothing to do in order to use it.

Nothing for you to do. Photopass is automatically saving the photos to your account, when you go to download later you will use memory maker

Although they say you don't have to do anything, I highly suggest stopping at the rides that have the memory maker pics and videos because often times they are missed. If you're only riding Mine Train once, you want that video.

There is no photo stop for Mine Train - that is one that you have to hope for the best on

But if the Mine Train video doesn't load to your account in 24 hours or so, use the Missing Photo feature in MM to send an email. They're pretty good at finding photos & videos, especially if you can tell them roughly "when" you rode and what you were wearing, etc.
