I want to stay in London around all of the tourist sites, as we will be taking daily tours from London. My daughter prefers the country/rural area to the hustle/bustle of big city life. Is there an area around London, preferably with a Holiday Inn or Comfort/Quality Inn that would be in a safe, quiet area around London, but still allow easy and quck transportation in to the city? We'll be arriving in Feb. Thanks everyone!

I'm so glad you are asking this! We are planning a trip to London and I'm really struggling with the hotel choice. I've heard that London hotels are very small compared to the U.S.
Is it just you and your daughter? We're traveling with our 2 kids and it's hard to find a hotel to fit a family of 4. Have you looked into the Premier Travel Inn County Hall? It's supposed to be right by the London Eye.

Does anyone know of any country-ish or rural areas within 30-45 minutes of London by train that has hotels? I'd like to stay in the city limits, but we're looking for somewhere out of the busy area that is also safe. Anyone? Thanks!

Hello there

Im not from London, but what about staying in Windsor, I know its not exactly rural as such, but is a beautiful town with Windsor Castle and some lovely little shops, and fine dining and I would imagine as safe as you could be. Its about a 20-30 min drive to London, so I imagine the trains would be just over that time.

Here is a link for you

If I think of anywhere else, I will let you know:thumbsup2

I don't know your budget but what about Hampton Court. It's not rural, but there is plenty of parkland (with deer), Hampton Court Palace itself and beatiful riverside walks. London, Waterloo station is only 30 minutes away by train.

Have a look at thse for ideas,

(I've not stayed at any of these hotels myself, but it is a fairly quiet area with the railway station and restaurants just accross the bridge.)

Hello, it's me again. I've been thinking about your trip. I'm not sure if commuting to your hotel after a day of sightseeing is the best way to go. In February it will be getting dark at around 5pm (so you won't get to see much of your hotel surroundings) and I'm sure you'll be tired. It will be 30 minutes or more journey time, plus you'll probably aim to get to the station 10 minutes early and then you'll have to get to the right mainline station from wherevever you've been in London that day (say another 20 minutes on the tube or bus).

I've heard good reports of the Premier Travel Inn County Hall, although again I've not stayed there. It is close to the London eye and on the opposite side of the river to the Houses of Parliament.

I live about 30 minutes from London and I know I'm more tired after a day sightseeing with the kids than I ever was when I worked in London and commuted home.
