PLease recommend a great standard room at WL!

I am new to the entire Disney frenzie and on a whim booked a trip to WDW for 9 days (8 nights) in mid September. I didnt know of any of the planning resources availible but think I got a decent price. I booked with WL in a standard room. No request for anything special (bunk beds, hadicap, ect) I am trying to make this trip truly magical for us since it is a celebration of the safe return of my dear hubby after a 13 month deployment in Iraq. Also this is the birthday present for our DD who will be turning 4 on the trip. We are coming all the way from Hawaii and actaully got descent airfare for the three of us with ATA connecting to SW. We have to take 4 (yes FOUR) flights to get there but we are so excited! We will not be able to get back to the MK anytime again soon since hubby is sheduled to return back to Iraq for another year in 2006. We are hoping to get back (if we love it) in early 2008. So, is there anyway to request a great room that you know is still a standard price catagory? How do you learn these rooms are better than others in the selected catagory? Is there any "complimentry upgrades" for active duty soldiers? He was a purple heart (combat wounded) recipient and got bumped to first class after airport security discovered the medal in his luggage. Does Disney offer anything like that? Any help at all is greatly appriciated!! Thanks in advance!

Lots going on so Disney is the right place to go for the magic!!!

Room requests are tough as everyone is different. Check out the Wilderness Lodge photo gallery in my signature and see some balcony views. That may help you.

Also, make sure that you have your travel agent or Disney note that your DD is celebrating a birthday while there. They like to make things magical for that. Also, at all of the parks go to guest services and tell them it is your DD's birthday and they will give her a button to wear. It gets you some perks sometimes like a quick line cut sometimes for the birthday girl!

Disney can be magical. The best thing to do is expect nothing and "hope" for a lot. This makes the trip even more magical when pixie dust makes it way to you.

If you could do a Woods View, Room 6020 has a great view of MK and bunk beds. We just got back today and this was our 2nd stay in the same room It is "smoking optional" if that is not an issue. It was an awesome view of Wishes every night.

If you can do a woods view (a few bucks more) and get on the Magic Kingdom side you won't be disappointed.

We were in 5026 and could see Wishes from our balcony.

Welcome back to your DH! A trip to WDW sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate! I would suggest letting a CM know (via phone) the reasons for your celebrations, and they'll note it on your reservation. They might not be able to do anything, but you never know!

Its 30% off for 1-3 nights, 40% off for 4 or more nights. My DH is also in Iraq right now and we will be staying at WL during the same timeframe.
