My plan is to spend the first part at Pop and the last part of vacation offsite. We have a wheelchair. After disney we would like to shop, rest, and maybe Universal. Pools are not important- we don't swim. Free breakfast or shuttles to wherever would be nice.

I would recommend the US hotels all are very nice and you have access to the parks and CityWalk. For the same price as Pop you can get a suite at CBBR. No free breakfast but you could get groceries and use your mini kitchen. Most of the hotels are going to charge you for the shuttle service to the parks and service is poor. The only other option is to use Mears, taxi or Uber. Off property hotels that are good are the Embassy Suites LBV and Hyatt Place across from US. They both have free breakfast but no shuttles.

You may want to check of the I-Ride Trolley.

http://iridetrolley.com/index.html

The Trolley has two different routes that operate on I-Drive and Universal Blvd. All vehicles can accommodate wheelchairs. Using the Trolley, you can get to both Premium Outlet locations, Pointe Orlando, I-Drive 360, Sea World, and lots of restaurants. However, the Trolley does not take you to Universal.

Also, if you provide a few more details, someone here might be able to provide a more specific recommendation on a hotel. Things like: total number of guests, general budget, preferred hotel brands (if any), and hotel style (luxury, full-service, extended-stay, etc).

Op here.

There will be 2 of us, possibly three but I doubt that. I would like it to be priced about the same as Pop, value season, so no more than $100.00. It must be in a safe area, very important, so we can go out for a meal at night. Of course the more bang I can get for the buck the better.

I'm very familiar with the trolley although I've never taken a ride on them. We usually get the Lynx bus.

At this point I'm thinking the Double Tree on Hotel Plaza with the Mousesavers rate, the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista on Palm Parkway or perhaps the Embassy suites on International drive.

The reason I'm thinking about those hotels are I can take the #50 bus from the Doubletree or Comfort Inn to get around, and If we stay at the Embassy I can take the #8 bus to both outlets on either end of International and also do Wonderworks, Titanic, Ripleys and all the other stuff on International that we've never done before, without transfering from the #50. I'm just not too sure how safe International drive is at night. If anyone has any other ideas to consider that would be great.

We will be in Orlando for 3-4 weeks, the first part at Pop till our AP expires, then move on to other interests.

We come to WDW every year and are quite familiar with the area. We used to stay in Old Town area Kissimmee, but the last time we were there at night it was unnerving, so we won't even go see the Saturday night cruise unless some other people will be with us.

We are adventurous but try not to be stupid. An older lady pushing a disabled girl in a WC could be subject to trouble, especially at night. Yet it would be nice to not be confined to the hotel when the sun sets.

Have stayed at Doubletree and Embassy Intl and liked them both very much. Have not stayed at Comfort but I think it would require transportation to do almost anything, while the other two have more things in walking distance. Not sure you can get the Hilton's with your budget though.

We just returned from five nights at the Clarion Inn LBV. We would definitely stay there again (Palm Parkway). It was an exit from Disney Springs, and there were a ton of restaurants within walking distance. No problems with the shuttle, but I don't know about wheelchairs. And we felt perfectly safe (?). We live in downtown Atlanta, though, so YMMV. ;) We usually stay onsite (like Pop), for reference.

OP here. thank you very much for your ideas, suggestions and help.

I ended up making a spreadsheet of the hotels I thought would work, such as the hotels on Hotel Plaza blvd., and others on International Drive, such as Embassy, Sonesta suites, Homewood suites, and Hampton. I marked the features that appealed to me, such as free wi fi, restaurants, shuttles, fridges, or free breakfast. Those features I gave a number to, in order of how important they were to me, subtracting points if the hotel had a resort fee. Double tree Embassy Suites and Rosen Inn all scored great, with 13 points, but Pop had14 points and with the AP discount it is the best choice for our needs, So, yesterday, I was able to make my reservations with the AP discount, and we will be staying on site for all of the trip with side trips via Lynx to International drive attractions after we finish the disney parks. If I was traveling with another adult, perhaps I'd be more adventurous, but for now, I'll stick with what I know. Thanks again for all your support.

Sounds like a plan! In future, Cabana Bay at Universal is great. I really enjoyed it, and the bus to Universal from there was terrific.

I recommend any of the downtown Disney hotels on hotel plaza strip. You can walk to downtown Disney or even the opposite direction to some other restaurants. I've also stayed at Wyndham on international drive, it's nice and walking distance to everything, (this is close to universal)
