Been watching flight ticket prices and hoping they would go lower- but they are not! They are going HIGHER!
Prices per ticket (for the hours/days we need- nonstop because of the kids- so we'll probably be flying Delta out of DFW) were $235 each and now they are up to $279 each!!!!!! That's a lot when you consider we have to get 5 tickets!!

So someone please reassure me... will ticket prices be going down at some point between now and around Thanksgiving (we leave on 11/21- return 12/2) or will they keep going higher????

ahhhhhhh

You are coming home 2 days after the Thanksgiving holiday.
That is going to keep the prices high. I would not plan on the prices coming down during the holiday period. The difference is a lot on 5 tickets. You might see that they only go up from here. If the price goes down even a little, be prepared to jump. 235 R/Tduring a holiday period is a good price, don't expect it to go down from there

Wonderful.
A month ago, even knowing the dates of our trip, everyone here responded that I should wait for a better rate.
LOVELY! Guess I shouldn't have taken that advice. :(

I'm so bummed.
Taking that advice has already cost us an addtl. $220... maybe more by the time I buy the tickets (I have to have my sister do it for me because my credit card won't do more than $1000 per 24hr period- hers will)
Live and learn.
:(

A lot of people on these boards like to wait, and play the numbers game. With reduced capacity at all the airlines, you need to figure out what is a fair price and buy if when you see it. You might spend a few more dollars, but most of the time you will come out ahead.

Travelers had gotten used to paying less than 99 each way from Florida. Seats were that price 10 years ago. The airlines have gotten smarter LOL and have cut seats, no need to give seats away. Keep looking maybe you will get lucky.

Did you read the other post about halfway down the page about DFW air rates? Maybe it will help you out a little. Just from past experience checking rates, Wednesdays, the rates seem to come down, so you might want to wait til midweek to check again. Hope you can find a better deal.

Well, I did the same thing almost. I waited and the prices went up $57 per ticket times that by 6 and it's a lot of extra money! I did however get the price I wanted leaving the day before so I am happy, an extra day at Disney, lol.

Traditionally, the prices drop a bit during the first two weeks of August, so keep an eye out. If they don't drop then, and you really need to purchase the tickets do it. They will always issue you a credit voucher.

Good Luck!

Try entering your desired dates in the Orbitz.com website's "Flight" section. There's a "Flexible dates" feature, which you may select. This allows you to look at a variety of possible travel dates, and compare for the best prices. By switching your travel dates a day or two forward or backward, you may save money on 5 tickets!

For example, if you can travel (DFW-MCO) on Nov 20, return on Dec 2, I see non-stop RT air on Delta for just $217. HTH.

I entered in your dates to www.expedia.com from DFW and found round trip for $219.50 - includes taxes. This was for a 9:50am departure from DFW, and return flight at 7:30pm or so. Delta.

at www.travelocity.com - United gave a flight price of $186, but flight times were more limited at this price (have to leave MCO at 6am!)

hope this helps! i find the best way to look for flights is to check expedia and travelocity EVERY DAY (if not twice/more!) b/c ticket prices change SO FAST. i got a price of $240 from SEA-MCO in Feb, and the next day it was like $300.

Thanks for all the help/advice. The problem is that our dates and times are set in stone. I've already added days to our trip and it's the max that DH can take off work plus the max I want to take my kids out of school. I can't leave in the AM on that Friday- because DH would miss another day of work (which he can't) and the kids would miss another day of school. So it has to be evening 20th to evening 12/2.

I'm still in shock that the price went up. Everyone was so sure prices would go down- I wasn't expecting this! I'll check back Wednesday- but I'm going to cry if the prices go even higher by then. :(

Well, I tried expedia.com again, entering 11/20/03 (evening) for departure and 12/02/03 for return (again evening) and was still able to find the $216.50 fare. This is for a 7:50pm departure from DFW, and return flight from MCO at 6:30pm on Delta. From your last post, it seems these would fit your needs. Good luck!

I have used expedia several times and always saved a few bucks. Please don't hesitate to try them. I am waiting for airline tickets right now myself. We will be traveling late Dec. I will be buying my tickets after Labor Day.

I always check expedia also.. that and travelocity.
In any case.... tried both again today and got the better price at travelocity. Unfortunately, because of my STUPID credit card limit of $1000 (on each- two of them) per 24hr period, I was unable to get the good price on all 5 tickets.
:(
I was able to get the 5 tickets at $216.50 online- until the pay page. It was slightly over $1000- so the pymt wouldn't go through.... ofcourse. So I tried calling them to see if they could take 2 credit cards to pay for it over the phone- and they couldn't. They suggested opening 2 browsers, putting 3 tickets on one order, 2 tickets on another order- and to make sure we got them to have both browsers done all the way to the paying page- and then do them both one after another really quickly.

Well, I tried that and the first 3 would get the cheaper rate- the other two would always try to do it at $279!!!!! So I gave up.

Then I tried again with 5, thinking maybe if it stayed that way until tomorrow I could have my sister use her credit card to pay for it all at once at the cheap rate- and then it was putting them ALL at $279- apparently not as many seats left at $216.50???

So I gave up for real..... well, for hours. LOL And then I tried again- and this time it was letting me put 5 tickets at $216.50 again but it was showing the exact flight times/etc with very little amount of seats left to choose from! And ofcourse I couldn't pay for all 5 with my stupid $1000/24hr credit card. :(

So then I tried that double browser thing again- and it wouldn't let me! Everytime I tried to pull up a second browser, even trying to log out- it was still pulling up info from what I was doing on the other browser and asking me if I wanted to cancel the reservation I was working on already and start another one.

UGH!
So I decided to bite the bullet and just do 3 tickets, pay for them with one card, then do 2 more and pay with the other credit card. Well, it bit me in the butt that way. I did 3- and then ofcourse immediately tried with the other 2 tickets and the thing was tricking me into thinking I was going to get the great price and on the last page before paying it would then say "sorry, the price has gone up" at the top and the prices for those were $279 again.
:(
Well at that point- when going through the reservations..... there were hardly any seats at all left for that specific flight both ways! We have to be on the same flight and prefer to sit near one another- yanno? We can't have all 5 of us split up all over the plane or on seperate flights at different times/etc!!!!! So I was scared if I waited to see if later I could get 2 more seats at the cheap price that we'd end up either not on the same flight or at the very least seated way far apart all split up.... so I went ahead and paid that $279 each for the other 2 tickets and chose seats where we'd be on the same aisle.

*sigh* Ohwell.. originally the price was $235 X five- which is $1175.
Yesterday at $279.5 each that would have been $1397.50.
The way I did it today with 3 tickets at $216.5 and 2 at $279.5 the total cost was $1208.50.

Soooo, basically I got 3 tickets less than I would have over a month ago, and 2 tickets MORE than that. But only $33.50 more than it would have been if I'd bought them a month ago. That's not too bad. That's not as bad as $220 more!!!!! Or however more it would have been if I'd waited longer. I also got a notice from farewatcher today (while I was gone from home so I couldn't jump on it immediately) that they had some fares at $113 round trip- missed that but then some were $203 but when I tried to get those- the exact dates (Nov 21 and Dec 2) were showing as sold out. :(

Oh and btw- the $216.50 tickets had to be on Nov 20th to Dec 2nd.... so that's how I had to make the $279 ones also ofcourse. That's one more day the kids will miss school BUT when I was doing all this figuring out earlier I realized that I had thought my DH was working Thursday evening shift and that's why I didn't want to leave until Friday evening. I was wrong- he works Wednesday evening shift then is off Thursday and Friday then vacation time starts! So he won't miss work- but the kids will miss one more day of school. But that's one more day at WDW though! :)

Thanks for all your help. I just KNOW that tomorrow (or this week or something) the rates will plummet and I'll be banging my head against a wall for missing out on the great prices. But considering how much the prices were going UP for the most part (except for some of the flights dropping down to $216.50 today)- I know that knowing my luck if I HADN'T bought them today- the price would have went even higher. I just know it. LOL

So glad that is over though. *phew* Just wish I could have gotten them all at the cheaper price... that would have been great!

I just HAD to go back and check and see if I could NOW get two tickets for the cheaper price... so I could bang my head against the wall if it would have let me a few hours later. LOL
Fortunately- it wouldn't.... still $279 for those.

So then I decided to check my original dates for all 5 of us again- Nov 21-Dec 2..... and it is coming up (same flight #'s both ways that I'd wanted before- nonstop Delta) $326 now!!!!!!!

Wow... from $279.50 yesterday!! Talk about prices going up....

Oh and btw- assuming that WDW takes reservations only during business hours- I'll have to call them tomorrow and see if I can get an extra night on my reservation!! LOL
If not, I guess we'll be staying offsite that first night. I just now thought about that. LOL Silly me.....

*sigh*
I know I shouldn't have checked... I know I shouldn't have... but I did. And darn if I couldn't have gotten 2 tickets, same flight and seats near the first 3 seats I purchased.... for $216.50 each.

UGH
Apparently their computers hold the seats for those that are just "checking" out prices and don't buy the tickets. This makes the seats disappear as you go through the process of picking seats before purchasing the tickets there online..... and then make the prices of the tickets go up for the remaining seats also. Then when they don't purchase those tickets/seats... later those seats show up again and the prices go back down again.

If only I had been a little more patient and waited till today to buy the other two tickets- I would have saved $126!! Do you have any idea how much that bugs me that I paid that much extra when I didn't have to? LOL

I just keep telling myself yeah, but knowing MY luck... if I HADN'T purchased those tickets even though more expensive.. I would have ended up unable to get the other two seats either not near us sitting together or not on the same flight at all! Going to keep telling myself that.... LOL

I'm a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason"... Go with that thought...

And have a great time on your trip!! ;)

Gail,

Unfortunately you cannot fly direct on SWA to Orlando from the Dallas area - we have an amendment in place that prohibits us from flying direct from Love Field airport (where SWA is located) to anything but contiguous states. So, in order to get to Orlando you have to book separate flights through Austin or Houston etc. By doing this you eat up what little you save by having to pay for gas etc.

I know that I am not alone in wishing that the Wright amendment would be abolished - I know it would allow better competition, and therefore more competitive pricing, among the airlines.

Yep I knew about that, but, the airfare to Houston then to Orlando is not all that bad, and it was a thought. :)
