Please reassure me- freaking out here!

Well call me dumb as a rock, but what the heck is the "Wright Ammendment" - and why do they have such a silly thing???

BibbidyBobbidyBoo,
I so so hate to throw fuel on your fire but I have to tell you about Airtran - next time maybe it will help you. I had never even heard about Airtran before this past year but I fly them almost exclusively now several times a year and here is why:
They REGULARLY discount all of their fares - including Holiday fares and they beat every other airline I have ever flown and many times do it as little as a month in advance of my travel times. They have non stop flights out of DFW (I fly out of Rochester). And get this - I never have trouble finding 130.00 pp fares (we have 5 in our family too and it gets expensive). And that includes ALL fees. You can't beat that for a non-stop flight to Orlando! I checked your time frame and right now it is 99.00 one way - about 1035.00 total for the 5 of you. A month ago it was even less. I almost never pay more than 650.00 for our family and that is consistent. I trust their sales and know they are coming, no worries! because their track record over the past year has been fantastic. Customer service is wonderful - they have waived change fees for me on more than one occasion.
I'm not telling you this to discourage you and I hope I haven't. But alot of folks don't know about Airtran. I'm so glad I found them and can now go to WDW 2 times for what I used to pay Delta for one trip! Since they do fly out of DFW - you might want to keep an eye on them...

Aw darn... I didn't know about Airtran- how come they never show up on all the places online to get the cheapest rates? (like expedia, travelocity, etc.)
??
So how do I find out rates with them? Can it be done online somewhere? They have a website or something? Won't make a difference on THAT trip as the tickets are already paid for- but I'm tentatively planning another trip soon (solo trip) and ofcourse will have more in the future- so it's worth finding out if they always have cheaper rates like that! Thanks for the info!

Yes, it's airtran.com. I've bookmarked it I use it so often!:p
The non-stop out of DFW is a really good time too - go check it out!
I used to use Travelocity, Expedia, and Orbitz all the time but no need anymore. Occasionally, Airtran shows up but dealing with them direct is always cheaper. You can check in online 24 hours in advance and get your seat assignments. I love that!

I'll check that out- thanks!
Too bad I couldn't use them with this trip, if it would have saved me money.... but what's done is done. :)

I work for an aerospace company that manufactures jet turbine engines. On one hand, I love the low ticket prices. I am flying round trip to Orlando late September for $130 including taxes and fees. But, on the other hand, just remember these good rates will not continue for long. I cannot even fill my car up and drive to Orlando for that price. Factoring in wear and tear on my car, I couldn't even do it under $300.

Almost daily, you see more bad news coming from our airline industry. Layoffs, cuts in service and companies on the verge of going out of business. The quality of service is my mind has turned for the worse with these lower rates. Remember, companies like Southwest can offer these lower rates because they have found a niche in the market. They don't fly out of these smaller airports where some customers demand service.

With that said, even $279 seems reasonable to me. Of course, we would all love a cheaper rate. So, don't fret it cost you a few more dollars, the convenience of flying allows you to spend more time to enjoy the wonderful world of Disney.

I am fully aware of all those things..... but this isn't just one person I'm talking about. We could easily drive to WDW again for MUCH less (we're talking like $1000 less) considering we're buying 5 tickets- even for the toddler.

When I go solo- I don't even consider driving and don't really hassle trying to get the cheapest air possible. Because ofcourse even if it was more for the ticket- it would cost almost as much to drive plus the inconvenience of driving that distance ALONE isn't worth it. But when it comes to buying 5 tickets- I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to get the cheapest rate and venting a little that I COULD have gotten all 5 at the cheapest rate but for my card only allowing $1000 per day, them not able to take 2 credit cards by phone/etc, or because I wasn't patient enough to wait and order the other two tickets later when I could have gotten them cheaper also.

$279 doesn't seem reasonable to me- but that's because I'm buying 5 tickets. LOL Or maybe because I'm cheap... I dunno. You're right about spending more time there- not only because of not driving but also because we ended up tacking on an extra day at the beginning in order to get some of the tickets cheaper. LOL

No fretting... what's done is done... just always like to save when I can. :)
