Hey all. For those who haven't noticed, or haven't bothered or had time to read it yet, there's an announcement from Webmaster Alex at the top of the Forum. The DISBoards are being migrated to new software AND servers THIS WEEKEND!

It currently looks like the boards will shut down Sunday Morning 2/1 around 1am eastern time and reopen some time on Sunday 2/1 late afternoon/evening. There are a lot of factors that could affect the exact time.

You'll use the same links/URLs to get here. But it's gonna look different when you do.

There will definitely be a bit of a learning curve if you haven't used Xenforo software before. And I'm expecting there may be some glitches or oddities that will need to be worked through. PLEASE let me know if you're having issues, or check out the Tech Support Board at the bottom of the main DISBoards Forums page.

I'm going to encourage folks to check your Trip Reports after the move. I've heard there have been some issues with really long or really big posts being truncated at the end. I'll know better after the move what the procedure should be to restore them, if that's possible (which I'm thinking it should be). But you have to let me know! I'll do my best to check what I can, but the sooner you find any issues, the better.

Also, the DIS app will be going away, as the new software automatically resizes & reformats itself based on the technology you use to access it. Just use a browser and the same link as you would on your PC or laptop.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll try to get all the answers I can. From what I've seen & heard, this is a Good Thing. But, like any change, not without it's growing pains and adaption period.

Actually, they're pretty sure they've fixed the issue with the post length. I would still recommend folks check their reports after the conversion to make sure they look OK. Right now, all I know about is Trip Reports that are already posted (doesn't matter if it's finished or not). The posts themselves (not the Threads) were being truncated if they were REALLY long. But, again, I think they've solved that.

We all hope it will be a smooth transition, and it most likely will be! But I'd be shocked & amazed if there weren't *some* minor glitches as we go. The DISBoards are HUGE, and there's a lot of stuff to convert.

Interesting. I'm not sure how that changes. Supposedly our count changes were remaining, but I can't find where they are. And I uploaded a new avatar, and it's not showing. And I'm still not sure what's up with "Profile" messages being on a public ticker. I think I'm going to be haunting the Technical Forum for a while!

I'm also not a fan of the teeny-tiny Reply window. Now, when I "Edit" my post, I get a better popup window. I wonder if there's a way to get to this for a Reply...

I have absolutely zero power to influence that decision, but I know the Webmasters are already aware of the ask to have tapatalk turned on and have said they may consider it and other enhancements *after* all the existing functionality is verified & working. For now, this site is capable of re-rendering itself to fit the size of the screen you're using. Give it a try for now. Please be patient.

No more app. You might as well delete it. Since the site is made self-rendering, the app shouldn't be necessary. It's a huge expense to develop a new app (the old one is toast), and even if they decided to do one, it likely wouldn't be available for a long time. I think they're hoping people try the website on a browser & like it. Except for some small fonts (like the Reply button) it looks really good to me on my tablet. I think font can likely be dealt with easier than a new app!

Also, there's been comments (I haven't tried it yet) that the limit for pictures per post is set to 20 now not 25. Which means if you edit an existing Trip Report, you can't save it without deleting 5 pictures. So I'm going to suggest you not Edit any existing Trip Reports for a bit until this is resolved. We've already requested this be adjusted.

Just so you know - when it says messages under your Avatar, I'm guessing that means how many replies or posts. The amount I have is just about dead on for the amount I had before the switch... I've added a few more here
