Many of you may remember I posted about 2 months ago I was planning a "wish" trip for my dear friends 11yo DD who has been battling a brain tumor for 2 years and it has left her blind. This past October the family was given the news to 'bump' up their wish trip. They had no time for planning and having never been to WDW, I was told to do the planning for them. Since I has visited Tikimans website so many times I felt it was the best match for them even though I am a AKL fan. I had emailed Steve and asked if he could help me make their stay as magical as possible for Laura and her 2 sisters. Steve has been coming up with ideas and emailing me almost daily. I had written letters all over WDW and the only ones who responded were the POLY! Because of Tikiman's efforts the Westbrooks will arrive this Friday to a stay full of magic and surprises. A time of memories I hope will last this family a lifetime. The Polynesian staff has really gone out of their way for this family and it is well apprciated!!

Steve is an amazing human being! Not only did he spend plenty of time emailing and making "contacts" at The Poly he is also out of his own pocket providing welcome gifts for the girls. It is a rare person who is so thoughtful to a stranger.

I also need to recognize regdvc although she did not want to be mentioned. Her family has invited the Westbrooks on their Illuminations cruise tonight. They were really looking forward to it I hope it went well.

That is awesome. Just before reading this thread, I was thinking about all the things I've read on this site over the last few months as I have been planning my upcoming trip. I have realized that not all of the magic comes from Disney...I think we bring a lot of it to WDW with us, esp. if we strive to make it so.

I'm staying at the Poly, and also arriving Friday (tomorrow!!), will keep an eye out for your friends and send magical thoughts their way.

I believe this may be the little girl and her family that I donated to through our school! I couldn't believe when I read the thread. I'm so glad she will be able to go to the happiest place on earth and have some wonderful memories. Plus, at my favorite resort!! God bless.

Yes this is the family you donated to. Probably thru a Brownie troop. I had a secret collection at work and that Brownie troop donated 100 to it. This "secret money" was used to provide special gifts on arrival to GKTW and the Poly. The Poly however has added much on their own to their surprises as well as Steve. They have recieved many generous gifts of money for this trip and have needed every penny.

I love the Tikiman's website! I visited it almost daily while I was planning my last trip to Disney and my first to the Poly. His info is always so helpful!

Your friend is truly blessed to have you in her life! What a wonderful thing you have done for her and her family. I wish them much love and support and the continued presence of people like you as they continue to deal with their daughter's illness.

I did not expect this to become a big thing and the only person I told I was doing this was my wife (since I am using our money) but I am glad I could help. I get many requests to use the people I know at the Polynesian to help add magic to peoples visits to the Polynesian but I would not want to ask that of the people I know there. I am happy to give all the info I can to help make their stay the best it can be.

This was a different situation and I realize there are many children out there going through the same thing but I cannot help them all. I just felt I wanted to do something for this girl. My aunt has been battling cancer for a few years now and WDW has been a place she could forget about some of what she is going through. I was hoping that this girl could get away from her problems for a while and enjoy the magic that I have seen when I have stayed at the Polynesian. There should be quite a few surprises for the Westbrook’s when they get there but I won’t spoil the surprise. The staff there has been more than happy to help add their own ideas and magic.

I hope to hear about the trip from the family when they get home or even see some photos but if not I will just imagine the look on their faces when they get to the Polynesian.

If it was not for Sue and her hard work (as well as others) this family may have never had a chance to experience the magic and the memories it will create for them to think back to.

There is no need to thank me. The effort it took me was nothing compared to the effort it takes Laura to live her life every day.
