I know it is heartbreaking, I read about all the children too. I keep looking at the trees and so many don't have any ornament at all. I am going to donate to one (sorry sweatpea), I just want these children to know that someone cares.

I know it is heartbreaking and sad. Neuroblastoma is the second most deadliest Childhood Cancer, Brain Tumors are #1. About 650 kids are diagnosed each year and less than 25% live 5 years, most kids develop toxicity and have major side effects from treatment, the Chemo regimen is very potent. Alot of kids develop organ failure from the treatment and can't go on to complete treatment. I know during surgery, Tyler had to get one Kidney removed unexpectly, one of his tumors had grown around it, and they could'nt remove some of the Cancer without taking the Kidney. I recall this day as if it was yesterday. I had just given birth 3 weeks prior to Tyler's surgery so we were in the surgery waiting room with a newborn, the other kids were with friends.

The surgeon came out to show us photos he had taken during the surgery, they were about halfway done with an 8 hour surgery. At first, I could'nt stomach to see Tyler cut open like that, but needed to look. The Dr. began to tell us that they had to take one Kidney, but also found that they could only remove what was around his adrenal gland and on the left lower side. Once they went in, the tumor they were gonna remove from his stomach they could'nt touch it because they saw that it was one large tumor that covered his stomach, entire chest area, and his neck. This would explain his breathing troubles.

To make a long story short, When the Dr pointed out what the tumors looked like, they were black, I guess I thought tumors were pink. The surgery was done after his 4th round of chemo, so they told us the other chemo cycles left should get rid of the rest of his tumors. They chemo did'nt so this is what led him to need the MIBG Therapy. So after the MIBG Therapy, Tyler came home, and was pooping a ton, his poop was black and looked like a very different texture, not to gross anyone out, lol. But, I kept saying to myself, I bet that is the tumors/cancer/bad cells, since they were black. So i called his Dr. to let them know this, since it was going on for about 5 days, I got concerned. I thought maybe this was the way his poop was to look after the treatment. Of course, the Dr. prolly thought I was crazy, he said he had never heard of that, and asked if Tyler had any oreos or anything that could caused that, I replied no, as he had'nt ate really anything. So my conclusion that he was pooping out the cancer could prolly be right, as after 2 weeks of pooping like that, and having scans done at 6 weeks after MIBG, he was Cancer Free. So who knows :confused3 I feel like a chatter box this morning, lol!

Earlier this Yr in June, I had the pleasure of meeting several of the families that are on the Lunch for Life site, we were at a Neuroblastoma Conference. Another great thing that Lunch for Life helps with, is those Conferences. There was something special about being in a room full of people that we had something in common with. It was very nice to see the kids dancing, playing, smiling, and making friends. I was deeply saddened to see the "Angel" parents though, parents that have lost there child to this disease.

Finding a cure for this disease as well as others, is really important to me. Please by all means, if you would like to give to a child that does not have a ornament, feel free, totally up to you. I have spoken with quite a few parents that have things lined up to earn ornaments, Lunch for Life just started Friday, so I'm sure those trees will begin to fill up quickly. Also, there is suppose to be a press release soon that should draw attention to the site. I too love reading the stories and seeing the cute little faces.

Thanks again!

I just cannot put into words how all of you guys have made us feel. I was almost(well was) in tears last night when I showed Tyler his Tree, he was just so happy and excited!!

Tyler said to me last night "so Mom, with all those ornaments and me selling my pet rocks I bet they will find a cure". "I prayed for my friends every night and they still died, how could that happen?", "even Payton, my first girlfriend". I was just lost for words. Tyler acts like an old little man, trapped in a young body, I love him so much!

All of your kindness, has really brought joy and happiness into our home. We have scans and tests coming up in about a week(Dec 6-15), and we get so worried beforehand. I was also wondering how I would get donations in honor of Tyler with all that going on. Thanks so much a million times over for helping. Really means alot to us. :grouphug:
