"NORMANDY BEACHHEAD, June 16, 1944 - I took a walk along the historic coast of Normandy in the country of France.

It was a lovely day for strolling along the seashore. Men were sleeping on the sand, some of them sleeping forever. Men were floating in the water, but they didn't know they were in the water, for they were dead." -Ernie Pyle

In case you didn't know, tomorrow is the 60th anniversary of D-Day. This is a day we should NEVER forget. Please, just take a moment to stop and remember.

If you want to read the three articles war correspondent Ernie Pyle wrote about D-Day, here they are:

Thanks Marissa...I know that World War II especially D-Day are something you are very very interested in.

Hope you had fun in Disney with Jules:)

Thanks, Norah! I did.

Wow, only one response...that's so sad. Guess our generation is more ungrateful than I thought.

"At 22:30, all over England, engines started. We were ready to go. Now here we sat, each man alone in the dark with his own thoughts and fears. "Lord," I prayed, "please let me do everything right. Don't let me get anybody killed, and don't let me get killed either. I really think I'm too young for this. I should be home having a good time. Who ever told me I was a fighter anyway?" " -Dwayne T. Burns

Thanks so much, Marissa. You have what it takes, a pretty remarkable 'kid', I must say. Ernie Pyle was like the Internet of the War. Thanks for the links, your concern. And thanks, Norah, for the link back.

That means alot coming from you, Dan. Thanks :)

I hope you don't mind Marissa but I linked this on a thread on the CB about D-Day.

Your dedication to history is amazing...ever considered being a history major like me? :)

I don't mind at all! Thanks for doing that! As of right now...I want to be a tv news anchor when I'm older, which I think ties into my love of history. It's kind of history in the making. We'll see though :)

It's not that we're ungrateful, its just that we don't care

I saw Saving Private Ryan, what more do you want.

For you to stop being so mean to other people. Some things I agree with you on but some things you are way out of line.

Norah you rule! Thanks :)

WDW"hunk"...I hope you enjoy your freedom. You may not "care" but I do because people died and gave up their lives so we could be free. Some people get it, and some don't. You obviously don't. To each his own. Have a nice day :sunny:

You should care, especially since it's your country. Without the soldiers who fought not just on D-Day, but in any war our nation has been involved in, who knows where we would be today. It seems to me like you are ungrateful.

Thanks for the articles. They were really interesting, and they prove what these men really went through.

WDW"hunk"

Smooth ;)

...I hope you enjoy your freedom.

Oh believe me I do. It's that freedom that allows me to laugh and point at extremists like you.

You may not "care" but I do because people died and gave up their lives so we could be free.

No one has given there life so that you're able to be free. Other than 9/11 and Pearl Harbor, we haven't had attacks on American soil. We've gone and fought in many foreign places... do I live there? Do you? How is that allowing either of us to be free? Until my life or my families life is in jeopardy and the military saves it and dies in the process, they won't have given their life for me.

Some people get it, and some don't. You obviously don't.

Thats another point where you're mistaken. I get it more than all of you. I'm not some guy who runs around protesting war hating America. By all means, lets go to war. I'm all for it. I even plan to join the Marines in a year... but no one will owe me anything for joining the armed forces.

Swirl that around your brain a little bit sweetheart.

Thanks for posting bout it! I normally don't like American history (it bores me sometimes, cuz we get it drilled in our heads at school) but WW2 interests me alot.
and we should rememeber all the lives lost on that day that changed the course of the war.

WDWHunk.. Marissa is just showing her rememberance for all of those soldiers that died during that time. How can you not thank them for what they did? Do you NOT see all of the memorials there are set up for soldiers? We have fought in many forgien countries so the wars won't come to America soil, can't you be greatful for that? You are a selfish child if you can not realize all of the horrible things these soldiers went throught fighting for our country. Just because it doesn't DIRECTLY effect you, doesn't mean you can't appreciate what they did. Marissa is not an extremist by far, if you look around, you are! No one else here seems to be as inconsiderate as you. I hope that when you join the Marines, you realize that you are fighting for this country, not for yourself. I mean why else would you join.. because you could turn up to be one of those dead soldiers and some other "child" is not going to care that you died fighting for this country.

Think about it that way.

Darling, I'm not even going to debate this with you. There's much that I could argue with, but I won't. Some people are so set in their beliefs that they can't be changed. I can't change yours and you can't change mine. But there's no need for you to be rude about it. Again, I hope you have a nice day.

Everyone who posted and wasn't rude, I just wanna say you guys are so nice and awesome. Thanks!
