I was speaking to Pete last night about the Community board. For whatever reason it has not been the friendliest of places lately. For some reason it's become ok to attack someone that posts because they are feeling down or are looking to vent. Too many people have even made a sport of it.
I'm not really sure why people take such pleasure in doing that. My best guess is that it makes them feel better than that person and that they are trying to deal with their own issues.
Just because someone has a self image problem doesn't make it ok for them to attack others.
Quite frankly I have read plenty of posts where I shake my head and think "What the heck is that person thinking". It doesn't mean I want to go after that person or degrade and demean them.
The Webmasters and the DIS mod team are going to begin to enforce posting guideline 3 very strictly. For those not familiar with it it reads:

3. NO FIGHTING: Several Internet news groups are marred by the actions of a few selfish people who turn an otherwise positive forum into a soap box for their anger issues. Internet newsgroups are not moderated, and therefore, anything goes. These boards are moderated in an effort to keep the discussions appropriate to the topic at hand. Those who feel they can not abide by these rules are welcome to read the posts on the board, and respond via email to the person who posted the message. Messages that are argumentative or sarcastic in nature will be deleted without discussion.

Any messages violating this guideline will be removed immediately without notificatin. Anyone who continues to violate that guideline will face further action which may include the removal of their posting priveleges.
Everybody can help us by using the "report this post" button whenever you see this type of behavior.
Thanks to the vast majority of posters who come here to enjoy the boards!

thank you.

Do we have any kind of recourse if we happen to disagree? For example, you meant something one way, and it was taken another?

That is GREAT, Alex, and thanks to you, Pete, and, as you said, the majority of the folks who who who come here to enjoy, making this place like family to me. Things like that are what attracted me years back, and continue to make me want to come back to visit. It is a great place, if allowed to remain that way. Again, thanks.

thanks, alex. :)

i have a question too. can we still debate if we do so in a friendly and non-sarcastic manner? i wasn't sure if this was about debates or people being mean in general.

thanks. :)

Thanks Alex:D

For whatever reason it has not been the friendliest of places lately.
Maybe it's because the DB was shut down and they showed up here on the CB.

I agree Alex.
I'm glad things will be nicer around here.

Yes you can Caity, it isn't about disagreeing it's about not being mean.
More importantly it's about attacking people who already feel down.
This has been going on since before the Debate board shut down Legs.

Worth repeating.

Thanks Alex.

Thanks!! :)

I agree to disagree to disagree but some manners and niceness is always great. A person is not an idiot because they do not think the same way as you. Now if I could my dh to understand this it would be great. ;)

Whew! Finally! Thank you Alex. I have to say that it's usually only the same 3 that really get out of line, especially on the political threads.

Oh and BTW CaityCaity I just wanted to say that even though I humbly disagree with you on just about everything, I respect your opinions and comments and thank you for not verbably attacking other posters.

;) Luke 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

thanks. i try. :)

What about posts that disagree with the OP?

For example: Betty Sue posts, "I can't believe this happened to me, did I do the right thing?"

People post helpful, honest, non-harrassing advice. Betty Sue doesn't like the responses she gets because she really didn't mean "did I do the right thing" after all, and complains people are attacking her.

Will the people that disagreed with her be in violation of the rules, since Betty Sue got upset?
