Please pray my 31 yo sister was just diagnosed with breast cancer UPDATE post 50

Your sister will be in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

This month marked my 11 yr. cancer free anniversary. I was diagnosed 1 1/2 months after we buried my mil from the same disease. He options and mine were so different and I can only imagine what is available today. Stay strong, it certainly isn't the death sentence that it once was.

Oh yeah, I was 35 yrs old.

what stage has been diagnosed?
I had DCIS over 10 years. I had one mastc with breast recon. I've been clear ever since. I was 33 at the time of diagnosis.
There are more advances in the treatment of BC than ever before so don't lose faith and hope.

Just wanted to give an update. She was diagnosed with Stage one Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. While it is an agressive cancer she caught it extremely early. She will be having a mastectomy followed by 5 months of chemo and radiation. At this point we are not sure if it is just a single or a double mastectomy. We are waiting to see if she tests positive for the breast cancer gene. If she does it will be double and myself, my mother and daughter will all need to be tested as well. I have an appointment for a mammogram on Tuesday. I have no symptoms or lumps but my Dr wants one done as a precaution and I will be going every year.

Please all my lovely DIS ladies do your BSE!!! It is saving my sister's life!

Hugs and prayers to you, your sister and your family. I'm glad to hear they caught it early.

Glad to hear that the cancer was caught early. That's so important. I had a mastectomy because I was Stage II due to having 2 lumps in the same breast and the size of the lumps. I had immediate reconstruction. I had a TRAM flap, which is where they take skin, muscle and fat from your abdomen and bring it up to create a breast. The good part of this procedure is no implants and I got a tummy tuck out of it. Also I didn't feel like I "lost" anything because I woke up with 2 breasts.
I was tested for the breast cancer gene and I was negative. If there are any questions I can answer please feel free to ask.

I'm glad it was caught early.

I will continie to keep your sister and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I had one mastectomy with immediate breast recon. I had the lat flap where they take my back muscle and pull that through to the front to create a breast mound. The dr also use an implant to full create the breast. Then I had an implant placed in my normal breast for balance. It was a 7 hour surgery but I woke up to a nice C cup (which was a huge improvement from my AA cup size.) Never needed chemo or radio. Its been 11 years and two kids later.
Now this is funny: I had only one breast and I gave birth to twins in 2001!:rotfl:

When my milk came in boy was I lopsided :lmao:

My girls are now 9 years old. My how the time flies.
All my best
Wishes do come true (just not how you expect them to)

I am so sorry to hear this. I am glad it was caught early. We will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.

Becky glad you posted an update, I am thinking and praying for everyone.
Glad you are having your test done on Tuesday.
I have to have mine done again in a couple of weeks!

I'm glad you updated and to hear that it was caught early!! I was also tested for the gene when I was diagnosed last fall. It's good that they're doing that even though only a small percentage of those with breast cancer have it. I'll keep praying for your family, as I remember only too well how difficult those first weeks can be.

Oh my, I just read this thread. I'll be saying prayers!
