Please Pray. Medicaid suddenly decides not to cover women with stage 4 breast cancer

This question you posted shocks me. I will say I have never nursed someone who was dying from cancer but I did see my mother die from cancer.
How can you not want to spend every dime you have to have one extra moment with your loved one? SHE CHOSE TO LIVE. She couldn't take the money with her. You said she wanted every day of life.
It wasn't her money or mine. She worked for the federal government. The total out of pocket cost in all of the years of treatment was $8. In all of these discussions about health care it amazes me how the Feds never want to impose any limits on their own.

My mother has been gone for 11 years now. Death is a natural part of life. We are all going to die. My mother was well into her 70s. She would not be alive today with or without cancer.

Like I said before I do wonder if the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars that were spent to prolong her agony could have been put to better use to save children pr young parents.

I draw the line at denying treatment because of health condition or age. The government can cut costs anywhere else, but to let someone die because it's too expensive to keep them alive when they want to keep fighting is unethical.

We have so much abuse in social services and so much overspending. They should cut benefits for the healthy before they do it for the people who need treatment to live.

So perhaps all those healthy poor children should have their free hot school lunch program cut to fund the lung transplant for all of the life long smokers with end stage COPD? I am missing the logic.

We have a great private insurance. One person on our policy is currently getting treatment and she has stage IV cancer. I am so glad that the option of possible recovery was not taken away from her.

seriously? a 100 yr old person with end all cancer or full blown whatever should be recieving full paid benefits?

I am also friends with her sister Cristen, this is what was poste on FB.

Drum roll please....if all goes well Connie should have Medicaid as of Tuesday! Thank you to everyone who spread the word, contacted your political representatives etc. Senator Mike Jackson's office worked hard to help resolve this.

I have issues with the Free Lunch Program. I can't understand how a parent can afford to smoke or go to a bar, yet their child is being fed by the taxpayers. I see it every day.

If you fall on hard times-Please, here is a lunch on me:flower3:

If you decide to have eight children and CHOOSE to spend money on yourself instead of food for those children, social services need to get involved. I am tired of paying for the poor choices of others.

Having children you can't afford to feed is JUST as irresponsible as smoking 2 packs a day and then expecting the taxpayers to give you a lung transplant:confused3

But that is another thread for another day;)

My thoughts are with the woman that the OP is speaking of:angel:

Does your state have any groups that might help with bills that are not paid by insurance? Here in CT we have "Swim across the Sound" and the "Norma Pfriem Cancer center" when I was working at the local University one of the cleaning ladies got all her bills paid by those two groups. I do get some help from them too, they pay the difference between what my insurance pays and my cost for all my lymphedema sleeves and bras. My bras cost $280.00 each and my insurance pays $100. My lymphedema sleeve cost $360 each and I need one every 2 months and my insurance pays $80. I could never afford the difference without those two groups helping me.
I was stage 3, grade 3 and had a 97% rate of reoccurance. I had 9 chemo treatments, 38 radiation treatments, 4 months of visiting nurses due to infections of all my surgical sites, 6 hospital stays for low WBC's 4 surgeries for the mastectomy, and infections of the surgical site. Chemo was terrible for me, I spent more time in the hospital than home due to decreased white blood cells. I was 5 years cancer free as of August of 2009!
BUTTTTT! my DIL got pregnant during my treatments and I have the most wonderful grandson now. Imagine if my insurance had refused to pay for my treatments.
I would ask the oncologist if there are any places that might help out, I am sure there is, Texas is a large state.

Sorry I have been MIA but we got the lovely stomach bug here yesterday! I also read on her caringbridge site that they raised enough money to pay for the first chemo session on Monday
