My husband likes to take pictures of me on vacation, and I have to admit, I do want a shot of myself with Mickey Mouse! The problem is that I have a lot of angry red acne scars (no no, they can't be skin-colored scars, they have to be bright pink on my fair skin). Normally I wear some liquid and powder foundation to cover them up (or at least minimize their appearance). But will this be feasible in Florida in August? It seems like it would melt off! Any ideas? Thanks. :)

While I do not have acne scars I do have a slight case of rosacea and broken capillaries around my nose. I have had this condition since I was in my late teens. I also have very oily skin. The Only foundation I use now is BareMinerals. I purchase mine from Sephora. In your case I would purchase a eye shadow brush and use that brush to cover those scars first, then with a big powder brush, use for all over coverage. If you have a Sephora in your area, you can test the colors for yourself. This way you can see if you like the coverage. It costs around $25.00, but it lasts a long time! I do not use their powder finish coat, I feel you can get a good one from target for less money.

I also like Mary Kay's Mineral foundation. It covers the same as bare minerals. Don't forget to wear water proof mascara though

I use a stick foundation from Max Factor. I have very ruddy skin and didn't find that Bare Minerals gave me enough coverage. This Max Factor stick foundation covers my red skin very well, but feels pretty lightweight. It only costs about $7 a tube - I buy mine at KMart. It seems to hold up well in the heat and humidity.

I just should warn you. We live in Vermont and I purchased the whole Bare Minerals kit in September of 07. In October of 07 we went down to Florida to GASP Univerasal studios, (we did fit in Disney Quest though!) It was unseasonably warm for October, like 89/90 with high humidity. I was absolutely miserable because my face would sting. It was the Bare Minerals Foundation. This summer, I tried it again and I was like OUCH, I am not wearing Bare Minerals in the summer anymore! I will say that the Bare Minerals Blush does not bother me at all so that's what I've been wearing. Srictly blush and waterproof eyeliner and mascara. I don't know if some light blush would help to even out your skin tone?

I too have very fair Irish skin and I have roseacea (sp?) as well. My problem though is as soon as I get overheated I turn into Rudolph! My nose literally swells and gets red. It's so embarrassing! I love Bare Minerals but it's definitely not enough coverage at all! I've tried the BE concealer too, just doesn't work. I went to Sephora and got Make Up Forever concealer. At first I LOVED it, it covered everything but it's supposed to be waterproof and it melts off of me! It turns my nose into a shiny mess. If it's not hot out it works wonders! The only other thing I found that I haven't tried is Dermablend. Has anyone tried that? They claim it's for scars/roseacea and it's waterproof also but so did this other stuff and it was $30/tube!

The reason the Bare Minerals made you burn and itch was the Bismuth in it. Bismuth causes alot of women problems and is really not good for your skin. Years ago when I first started using mineral makeup, I too, like most women started with the Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals and loved it. However, after doing alot of research, I quickly discovered that there are alot of smaller, cheaper mineral companies out there that make far better products and don't use Bismuth as a filler. Look for a foundation without Bismuth and believe me your skin will be much happier. If your skin is dry, look for products that contain alot of silk, but if your skin is oily look for products with kayolin clay. The kayolin clay products are much easier to find than the silk products though.

To the OP: take the advice of a southerner who is used to dealing with the heat and humidity. Mineral makeup is the way to go, but it may take some time to find your perfect match. Alot of companies have very cheap samples of their products that you can try, until you find what works for you. Check on makeupalley.com and makeuptalk.com for reviews. Pure Luxe makes a powder eraser and a green powder corrector that may help you. I say powder, because she also makes a cream eraser and cream color correctors that I don't particularly care for. Dream World Minerals makes her mineral foundation in three formulas, including a Luna formula that provides maximum coverage. I haven't used it, as I prefer her lighter Mist formula, but the ladies that have used her Luna formula give it rave reviews and say that like most mineral foundations, it's so light you can't even tell you have it on, but it provides full coverage. She also makes some of the best primers/finishing powders on the market. I love her Banana cream silk, Raspberry cream silk, Angel cream silk, Butterscotch cream silk, and her Whipped cream topping. Pure Luxe also has a Translucent Matte primer that is very good for keeping makeup on. Silk Naturals makes a couple of great primers/finishing powders also. I've never heard anyone that didn't love their Date Bate. Both Pure Luxe and Dream World have a large choice of shades and if you find you are between shades both Chris and Ellie will custom mix foundations for you. In Pure Luxe, I use 75% Fawn Beige and 25% Buff and in Dream World, I use 75% Ala, 25% Pinga, and a touch of Ki. Both ladies custom mix my foundation and I usually have some samples left to adjust the color as my skin changes color througout the year. With mineral makeup, your skin should look totally natural, but better. If it looks powdery then the shade is probably too light and you need to keep looking for your match. Good mineral makeup is usually sweatproof and waterproof. When you get sweaty, just blot gently (don't rub) and your makeup should be fine. With mineral makeup, you do need primers, both under the foundation and under the eyeshadows. I usually use Pure Luxe's Translucent Matte and/or Powder Eraser or Dream World's Butterscotch Silk and/or Banana Silk. I use Urban Decay Eyeprimer Potion for an eyeshadow primer. The primers are the secret to keeping mineral makeup on and looking good. Meow Minerals also has a huge choice of foundation shades. I have dry skin though and all three of Meows formulas seem to dry my skin out worse. They do have some beautiful blushes that I love though. For some gorgeous eyeshadows check out Pure Luxe, Dream World, The She Space, and Fyrinnae. The main things with mineral make up is: 1) to be sure to use the correct brushes specifically made for mineral makeup. The brushes make all the difference in how your makeup goes on, 2) be sure to use primers and top coats, and 3) use just a teensy, teensy amount of minerals. Put a tiny amount on a saucer, swish the brush in them, tap off any excess, then swirl them on, and buff. With Pure Luxe, you just swirl the foundation on with the biggest, softest brush you have, you don't buff in. Oh, one more thing, be sure to moisturize well and let the moisturizer soak in for a few minutes, before applying mineral makeup. The minerals need something to cling to. Also use a scrub on your face a couple times a week. If you have any dead skin cells loose on your face, the minerals will cling to them, giving you a flaky look.

As far as mascara, the best waterproof mascara on the market is Shiseido Majolica Marjorca Neo Lash Expander. Curl your lashes, apply Shiseido Curl, Curl, Curl Toward the Sky mascara primer, then apply a light coat of the Majolica Marjorca Neo Lash Expander. If you happen to get any on your lid or undereye, remove immediately. This stuff holds a curl wonderfully and won't smear, sweat or rub off. I wear contacts, my eyes water alot, and I have never been able to wear mascara on my lower lashes without looking like a raccoon, because of it, until I discovered this. This stuff doesn't come off until you take it off. You could probably wear it for a week and it still wouldn't flake or rub off. That's the only problem with it. It's almost impossible to get off. Do not put it on, unless you have some Kanebo Freshnel White C Cleasning Oil. Apply the oil to your dry face and rub it in. Then wash off with a washcloth. Follow with your regular cleansing cream. For some reason it comes off easily with the cleansing oil, but that's the only thing I've ever found to remove it. Regular waterproof eye makeup remover, vaseline, cleansing creams, etc do not budge this stuff. If you want a good mascara that is waterproof, but comes off easier than the Shiseido Lash Expander, Blinc makes a good one that tubes your lashes. It comes off in little rubber like tubes with just soap and water though.

Take a look at some of the following online mineral makeup companies: Dream World, Pure Luxe, Silk Naturals, Meow, Cory, Alima, Monave, Lumiere, Lauress, Aubrey Nicole, Aromaleigh, Sun Cat, Everyday Minerals, or J Lynne. Alot of department store brands are coming out with mineral makeup, but most of them are only part minerals with alot of fillers and most contain bismuth, which most people need to avoid.

Wow! I am impressed! So much great information. You MUST do this for a living....Thank you....I printed out everything you said...as a guide to my makeup shopping...:thumbsup2

While you've seemed to find an answer, I will just throw my 2cents in as I live in South Florida.
My makeup rountine for any month (since I live in FL the heat is always a problem--my rountine changes only for December and January) is as follows:
1. A great moisturizer
I'm sure you have one you already love but if not I recommend Philosophy's Hope in a Jar.
2. Concealer
I really only use this for dark circles under the eye and maybe a blemish or two.
3. A Neutral but shimmery and pretty eyeshadow
My 2 favorites are from MAC are "Pfloof" and "Shroom" and they are great! I usually wear one of them everyday and the nice thing about them is that you can build on them.. for example: you could simply put some "Shroom" on and hit the parks but then go back to the hotel room and add a darker color for your dinner reservation at a nice restaurant and look fabulous! MAC eyeshadow stay on forever and looks great, constantly. :)
4. One coat of mascara
Again, I'm sure you have a favorite but if not try Covergirl LashBlast (it comes in an orange tube). It makes your lashes incredible!!
5. Mineral Foundation
MAC has great mineral and so does Philosophy. If you are looking for something cheaper try your local Target, CVS, or Kohls-there's great mineral foundation for a fraction of the price
6. Swipe on some blush
7. Put on some lipgloss/lipstick
and then you're good to go!!
I have really sensitive skin and all the products I recommended are safe for sensitive skin. This makeup routine will not melt off and it takes only about 5-7 minutes to do depending on how fast and good you get ;).

Have a great trip! And don't worry about those pictures- I'm sure you'll look beautiful!

I have the same problem! When at WDW, I don't want to have to spend a lot of time in front of the mirror in the morning, but there's only so much photo editing you can do on the computer without making it look obvious.

My solution: you can get liquid foundation with sunscreen in it - not only is this wise in Florida's August sun, but it will also cover blemishes. Two birds, one bottle!

i suggest not wearing makeup. i did one august and by the second day realized i was just torturing myself.
so now i tan. i used to go to a tanning salon, but i dont like doing that now. so instead i use tanner. Jergens makes the best sunless tanner ever!! its just body lotion with a touch of tanner in it. so it takes over a week to actually get a tan. so ive started this now for my august trip.
i find id i tan from the sun, it brings out my acne scars more, but this becasue its fake color hides it. so i use the body and the face lotion, and i really look tan. infact i havent worn makeup at all i n about a week.
oh and the face lotion, has a sunscreen in it!!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: Unfortunately I have such uneven skin I have to wear make up but I use Jergens everyday! I love it! It's the best stuff out there. In fact before they came out with it (when they just had the other self tanners) I would always say I wished someone would come out with a lotion that had tanning cream in it! I could never put the tan cream on the right way but figured something like that would be great. Damn I could be rich right now!:rotfl2: Oh well...but I've been using Jergens ever since it came out. I usually use Olay or Neutrogena for my face though, I found that Jergens makes me break out.

If I don't wear makeup even in the hottest weather, my oily skin is even worse. I like Revlon Colorstay or Almay TLC right now. I also like Mary Kay's oil mattifier. I think Paula Begoun's reviews are pretty accurate and I often try her suggestions. (cosmeticscop.com) She has her own line of stuff too, I want to try her oil mattifier one of these days.
I've tried many of the long wearing lipsticks and the only one my lips have been able to tolerate is Almay, I like the color Blush. I use N.Y.C. kiss gloss over it, have been very happy w/that combo.
I used to use blotting papers but have found napkins or toilet paper work just as well for me.

I have been using mineral makeup for about a year. I have had an adult cane problem since my early 20s. TMI alert--The only course of tx that helps is extractions with a dermatologist every 8-10 weeks, consistent Rx benzoyl peroxide and Retina use. I have to take a B-Complex and C combo. When I am good about drinking at least 2 gallons of H2O a day, then my skin will look its best. I have to be very careful with my skincare and makeup choices also. Right now I am using Clean & Clear advantage gel cleaner and Olay oil free spf moisturizer. And weekly I exfoliate. Stress & hormones have always taken a toll on my skin. As you can see--very structured and lots of work!

Last year I began using the L"oreal mineral makeup and the coverage was very good when it goes on after moisturizer that has settled. I tried Everyday minerals after learning about it on the boards. The colors were great--I felt that I got better coverage from the L'Oreal. For me it was more cost effective to use the L'Oreal. I have ordered samples from pure luxe based on the recommendations from this thread. So we will see!

Here's the kicker--if I am not up on the exfoliating etc I have seen more blackheads. I have never really had a problem with blackheads--my problem is milia (whiteheads). The only thing I can think of is because of something in the mineral foundation.

I too have tried the Bare Escentuals mineral foundation and had trouble with it. I have since discovered Laura Gellar's baked foundation called Balance and Brighten. I love it! It definitely provides more coverage and doesn't irritate my face. I like to apply it with the kabuki brush from BM.
