PLEASE! Keep your cats inside!!

That's so sad. :( You're a good person to take care of Mr. Floppie and to do the right thing.

Our Moonbeam is strictly an indoor cat, although she scared the heck out of me last week when she pried the screen door open while I was in the garage. I came out to see her sitting calmly on the mat outside the back door. She had plenty of time to get away but thankfully she knows she has a good thing here :) and just started sauntering when I went and picked her up to bring her back in.

I've seen WAY too many outdoor cats in the neighborhood suddenly go "missing" and I know they have met with untimely deaths. :(

How sad :( RIP Mr Floppy!

I just posted how Max, one of cats got out while we were on vacation and how upset we were... Luckily he was found and is safe, however when telling one coworker (a serious cat lover) a second coworker had her own ideas on cats going out... I can not say I agree with her ;(
Why have a pet if you let them roam at their own will?

What's your Opinion??

This is so sad. You and your dh are kind people.

I don't have a cat, will most likely never have a cat, but if I ever do, it will be an inside cat, I promise.

I had never even known about outdoor cats until I moved South. In NY ALL cats are indoor unless they're stray! When I spoke to people here they thought I was strange to keep my cats indoors! There is NO WAY I'd let my "kids" out, there are WAY too many dangers out there. I have four now but have have 7 in the past 20 years.

One of the best lines I ever heard was from my vet, who is a totally feline doctor. She told me the average lifespan of an indoor cat is 20 years, an outdoor cat has an average lifespan of 2 years.

Quite a difference, huh?

I think the term "domestic" means "home" doesn't it???

I was sure my coworkers were going to get in a knock down drag out fight over whether it's right or wrong to have a cat outside wandering around... seriously.
No matter what we said Ann would not change her mind. She pretty much said it's fate if the cat gets hit and oh well. I on the other hand see it much differently... why temp fate?

I am not arguing the goods vs. evils of letting cats out, I read the outside cat lifespan vs. the inside cat, and I just wanted to share that I had two outside cats growing up, they were sisters, and one lived to be 14 and the other lived to be 17, so the two year thing isn't always true.

Well, because we got both our kitties from rescue socities, one of the rules we agreed to abide by when we adopted them was that they were NEVER to go out unless they were in a carrier. And with the exception of a few 'accidental' escapes our first few months in the house when Rumpleteazer figured out she could pop the screens out of the window, they never have. I have taken her and held her while I was out on the back deck for a few moments over the summer, but never longer than five or ten minutes at a time.

I'm so sorry for your Mr.Floppie. He sounds like he was a good cat.

Poor, poor Mr. Floopy. Thank you so much for taking care of him and letting him go to kitty heaven. One of my boys (Tycho) was a stray and I'm thankful every day he didn't have FIV or luekemia, because I wouldn't have been able to adopt him. And even though he was a stray, he adapted right into living inside ALL THE TIME!!
