Hey guys, probably crazy question coming up…!

We have a trip booked for November staying at All Star Music. I’ve only been to Disney once before as an adult back in 2017 so don’t have lots of experience! From joining various groups and reading threads I’ve seen quite a few posts about snakes around the hotel and parks, and even getting into people’s rooms.

I’ve an extreme phobia of snakes however with this being Florida I knew on my last trip that they’d be hidden in the bushes etc but I didn’t see or encounter any. Now having read all of these posts I’m really worried about our upcoming trip and concerned I won’t be able to enjoy it so much. Does anyone have any tips about how to stop them getting into our room etc or avoid them completely?

I know the ones I’m likely to see in the parks are harmless but I’m just so worried about finding one in our room at night! Thank you 🥰

I've stayed at All Stars Movies and Sports and my family has stayed at All Start Music. While I've seen snakes at a few other resorts, I've never personally seen them at the All Stars. I would request a room that's not on the ground level if that gives you peace of mind.

Chances are excellent you won’t see one. Ive been going to Disney World every year of my life since age 6 and I’ve never once had a snake in my room. Outside the room Ive seen lots of lizards, an occasional armadillo, alligators in waterways and even a peacock but I’m not sure I’ve ever even seen a snake outside, let alone inside. And if you did come across one in your room (unlikely) just exit the room and have a CM remove it. And as another poster said, request a high floor room.

Requesting a high floor is a great suggestion. I have seen snakes twice - both quite a few years back - once while staying at a “cabin” (trailer) at FW and once while walking through the grounds of the Poly. I’m not crazy about them either. :sad2: But both were seen outside; I’ve never seen one in any of our rooms in all of our many visits since 1981. Seek assistance from the front desk (maintenance/housekeeping) if you run into an issue, but chances are you will be fine.

40+ trips and we have only seen a snake a couple of times and never near any of the buildings. But if you are really worried then request a room that is not on the ground floor.

Same. Never stayed there, but I've stayed at loads of WDW resorts and never seen one (thank God!) I do tend to request higher floors. But remember: people love posting about stuff like that, but it doesn't mean it's really that common! Plus, I saw someone yell "look, a snake" at a palm frond one time, so.... lol

Make "upper floor" your only request. While it's only a request, you are more likely to get it if you don't have any other requests.

Keep your room door closed and avoid walking on the grass or taking shortcuts through bushes.

We've been many times and while we've seen lots of wildlife, we saw a snake just once at Caribbean Beach Resort and that was in the mouth of a bird - not my idea of lunch!!

May be worth seeing if you can swing a Deluxe which would have interior corridors. Or the Tower at Coronado Springs. Then they'd have to get inside the building, manage an elevator, and get down the hallway without being seen.

I'm not a fan either, but I've been going since the mid-80s and cannot remember ever having seen one. Inside or out. (Other than the python or boa a CM was holding at the marathon entrance to Animal Kingdom.)

We've been going to WDW for 15 years and only seen one or two snakes and they were never near a building. We see the little lizzards all the time though. :)

In 34 years the only time I saw a snake and that was rare was standing and actively looking on bridges over waterways which is rare in and of itself.
Most of the snakes are garden snacks and harmless either way. BUT stay on paths stay out of the grass and if something falls under a bush do NOT stick your hand in to get it. If it is important ask a CM and a landscaper should assist. Keep your patio and or outside room door closed I personally see this enough. Snakes don’t like hot concrete….. At night stay in well lit areas…. Snakes are far more afraid of you than you are of them no matter how scared you are…. You are much bigger…. and they simply don’t want to be near you either.

Thank you all so much for your replies! So reassuring. Like another poster said, I guess people comment on things like this when they have a story to tell and say nothing when they don’t, which makes it seem far more common than it is :)

Have never seen a snake at Disney. We do usually stay deluxe but just be aware that some don’t have interior hallways either (Old Key West, Saratoga, Cabins at Fort Wilderness, etc.). I do actually think the value resorts has more people walking around so maybe there’s more people to make noise and scare them away?

There are actually reports of a snake in my neighbourhood right now (rare), and a neighbour is wondering if anyone wants to catch it so animal control can come pick it up. 🫣 Glad I’m not home right now.

OP ~ there are lots of snakes in Florida, everywhere, but at Disney it is so busy the last place they want to be is interacting with guests. 140+ on property stays and I saw a snake once in bushes at POP Century. Stay on the sidewalks, not in the grass or landscaping and you'll be fine. Do not leave your door propped at any time, lots of small critters might be curious. But I doubt you will see any snakes.

AND snakes climb walls so higher floors are no guarantee to be critter free.

👀 They want animal control to come pick up a critter who lives in the wild naturally? My gut tells me they aren't going to come. Tell the neighbor to just leave it alone, it will move on.

It's certainly possible that you see one. But they're far more scared of you. I can tell you that in ten years of living in Florida and visiting Disney regularly, I've maybe seen a snake 5 times ... in TEN years.

Yeah I’m not sure what happened exactly. It turns out I’m a few days behind (thanks random Facebook algorithm) so I did some more digging and it sounds like the snake was initially found near a dog park. It moved around the neighbourhood for the next 3 days. Much debate ensued about whether the snake should be left alone or captured and relocated by animal control. Neighbours were not being kind to each other online and sadly… I just saw an update that the snake was run over. RIP.

Over 20 trips and have never seen a snake. Phobic myself so I don’t go looking. Last trip was the closest I have come. We were at AK and saw a group of people circled around a cast member with a broom and dustpan and my daughter looked more closely and said let’s go this way (away from the people) and as we were going away told me he was gently encouraging the snake back into the brush off the walkway. I feel like AK is where I am most likely to see one. That was closer than I want to get to it lol

We always stay on the ground floor and we usually see a snake or two in the grass or bushes near the walkways at least some point during our stay when we stay at a value or moderate resort. Never had them in the room though.

Request the top floor. You should be fine.
