I have been a long time lurker and I have picked up tons of great advice so I figured y'all would be the best group to ask...A few weeks ago my most prized possession my Sony A300 with my 75-300mm lense that was on it was stolen when are house was broken into. So now I am thinking, should I stick with Sony? Looking very hard at the A55. I would still be able to use my 18-55 standard lense along with my Tamaron 28-200mm. OR should I up grade/switch to another camera brand and start over. I am no where near where some of you are as far as cababilities but I do know a little bit. I had my camera for around 3 years so I knew how to use most functions and know switching brands I will have to start over. 95% of my pictures are of sporting events as my son goes from football to basketball to baseball and track. My question is WWYD? Thanks in advance for yall's help!!:goodvibes

Did you file a police report? And call the local pawn shops. There are some pawn shops that do receive the PD reports from break in's and alert to merchandise that may come it. BOLO 4 it.
Were there other homes in the area hit, was this the only item taken, you don't have kids friends or reletives in the house that may have picked it up?'
Wishing you luck

Yes we filed a report the day it happened...They took more than just this, it was just the most heart breaking. I have been watching craigslist and shops just in case but this happened on 7/6....I am at the point now that my son is going to start football in the next few weeks and I just can't see not having my own camera so I am wanting to replace it as soon as possible.

I do not see any reason to switch since you were happy with the brand. I would personally pick the A580 over the A55, because I would want the optical viewfinder.

Sorry to hear about your camera! Since you liked your A300 and still have two lenses left I'd be looking at another Sony. No need to switch unless you don't like any of the new Sony bodies or a different camera brand is the only one that meets your requirements.

The Sony camera's are just as capable as other brands at that level and often give more bang for the buck such as 10 fps on the A55. The electronic view finder of the A55 can take some adjustment in framing with fast action sports such as car racing etc. but won't be too different for the sports you are looking to shoot. As suggested the A580 would be another good model to consider.

I agree with the others. I would look at the A580 because of the optical viewfinder. It shares the same sensor as my D5100 which I love so higher ISO is possible. I had an Olympus advanced camera with the LCD viewfinder and couldnt get used to it. It was like looking into a tiny TV.

Thanks for yall's advice I think I will stick with Sony as I did love my other one and after having it for 3 years I was finally starting to learn all the buttons. Before I go the A55 route I am def. going go check out the view finder because I have heard that was one of the cons.

The EVF is different and has a very slight delay which is the con but it also has some positives to it such as being able to visually see the exposure, white balance etc. It has never really frustrated me (I have an A55) but did make me laugh a little bit when first using it. :3dglasses

I did play with the A55 a little today and reeaaallllyyyy liked it, EVF didn't bother me to bad. How long have you had yours?? I did read one review that stated it gets dust particals on the mirror and you have to clean it often? Have you had any issues with this?
