ok - I'm better now - I'll try again (I was finished to & sending it!!)
ok - the short answer is Canon. I've used several & LOVE LOVE LOVE them!
Long answer Canon....Think about what you're needing in a camera(what you're taking pics of - only close range - on the ball field, etc) & a budget to start with. (cause you can find great cameras in all price points nowadays)
There are great review sites where you can see all the specs & compare them (steves digicams is a good one) but your best bet is to handle several to see what's comfortable. Go to
Best Buy they are good about having the cameras with batteries in them so you can try them out then do your price checking after you see what you like.
As far as the lines I just bought the SX110 ($200+) & LOVE it. Its a step up for me. Not too large - will fit in my pocket - but looks like I have a growth there - lOL it doesnt' have a viewfinder -so some won't like that - I never use the vf so no problem for me.
My previous 2 cameras were the Power shot "A" series - they were like A110 - something like that. Great little cameras for under $150
My mom & MIL have the step up from mine in the S series $350+/- another great one - I don't like it 'cause its too bulky to tote around. MIL still uses her Elph (another series they make) to keep in her pocket & the only she'll most likely take to WDW.
My bro just bought a used SLR (a Rebel) I think he got the low end one - around $500. He needed the speed & zoom to catch his dd on the college soccer field. I have a friend that also as a Rebel - I think hers is the next level up $800 or so & she sells her pics - but she has all the lenses & such....
If you check out Canon's site they of course have all the specs on there
I have not used a Canon that I didn't like the pictures taken from - of course I take bad pics - but that's user error not camera error.
NOw that I've completely confused you some more

- there's my opinions
OH yea - one other way to see things is check out your scrapbook mags (assuming you have any) & they often have the info on what kind of camera the pic was taken with.
GOOD LUCK!
oh yea - there is a camera board here on the DIS - you can check out their pics - but again have your budget in mind BEFORE seeing their amazing work 'cause many of them are using the higher end cameras (SLRs that are $500+ )
