We are staying at BWV's in late April while my daughter turns 11. Trying to plan something special for her. Since we are fairly new to DVC, hoping that some of you can give us a few ideas.

We've done a number of the character meals and were looking for something different. Any ideas as to a fun dinner experience for her?

As well, since she is still too young for most of the tours, has anyone done the MK scavenger hunt? Is it more for younger children or will she enjoy it? We also have a son aged 13.

Thanks for you help.

We have done the MK Scavenger hunt -- they send you all through the park finding clues, sometimes doing silly things. At the end we found Jasmine and the Prince and had private photo ops and then we went on It's a Small World with them. It is geared for younger kids. My oldest was 10 at the time.

How about the Hoop de Do for dinner. That is always so much fun.

make sure you get a birthday pin at... where do you get those?! I know at MK it's the building on the left - is that Town Hall? (yes, i'm embarrassed.... i can never remember those names and i'm too lazy to look them up.)

When you check in, make sure to tell the CM about the birthday. When I did it, I received balloons and a birthday card from the mouse himself.

Chef Mickeys is a great place for a birthday. My kids aren't quite that old yet so I can't say for sure that they are going to love something, but Chef Mickey's is our favorite. When DD was 7 we celebrated there, and Mickey brought out her birthday cupcake, and lead the happy birthday song. You might want to do a search for this topic. I know that some people have talked about ordering cakes from the Boardwalk bakery, and some other places at the world. Maybe she would enjoy Cirque or some other special show. Mine would probably be happy just to get to plan the day and the restaurant for the day. Any place at the World is great for a Birthday celebration IMHO.

Where do you sign up for this? I've never heard of it. Is there a fee associated with it? It sounds like fun!

Many thanks!!!

Thanks for the good suggestions.

I'm torn between planning a surprise and asking her what she would like. I guess the typical 11 year old girl already has quite a few strong ideas of her own and maybe I should put some of these ideas to her.

Just had another thought...she has always been quite the 'princess' ... I wonder if I should look at what is available at the SSR Spa. Maybe a manicure or something...make her feel real grown up....I know that although a pedicure is a real treat can't see those soft 11 year old feet really needing that !!!

When my niece was almost 11 I made ADR at the Grand Floridian for afternoon tea, I had pre-ordered the Cinderella Slippers before we arrrived. We loved our special day, for our trip in June she has already requested we have tea at the GF. The birthday cakes that are available at the GF are spectacular.

As mother of an 11 year old girl, I think you are on the right track. I've discovered this last year that it's better to find out her preferences ahead of time. A spa treatment "day of beauty" sounds great, not sure what your son would do though unless go to the parks with dad. I'd also say, let her pick where to have dinner that night and then call ahead to order a cake etc. Maybe Whispering Canyon would be fun....I know mine considers herself now too old for characters.

Go over to Beach Club and go to Beaches and Cream and order the Kitchen Sink. It is a FAMILY SIZE ice cream (the four of us couldn't finish it but we had fun trying). They made a big fuss as they brought it out to us. My kids loved it!

The kitchen sink? Now that's a good idea that my son would enjoy as well. And isn't a birthday the perfect excuse to order something so over the top !!
That truely would be something that we would tend not to order on a regular day.

Knew I would get good ideas asking the experts !!

I think your spa idea is perfect. We have four girls and from age 10 they've wanted to follow my wife to the spa. I think it's a bit too much--a 10 year old getting a facial--but let me tell you they like it (and let me tell you I lose that argument!)

Took everyone's advice and had a 'planning' conversation with my DD.

Her first reaction was a totally MK day. I'm fine with that as it is my favourite park. (not counting EPCOT during F&W when we've left the kids at home !) However, as soon as I showed her the picture of the 'kitchen sink' her mind was made up! This would truely qualify as something we would not normally do.

I'm still hoping that we do a dinner at Whispering Canyon. From all I've read it can be very entertaining. I would think that they might make quite a fuss for a little girls birthday...

And then....she loved the spa day....looks like we'll have a fun few months planning.

Any more ideas to tempt us with...so nice that everyone is so helpful...

If you want to 'see' the Kitchen Sink, watch this special on the Travel Channel this week. They show it being made. After seeing this, we decided we had to try it and we had such fun getting it! Probably won't do it again (too much for the 4 of us), but it was a really fun memory!

On Wednesday January 18, 2006 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM on the Travel
Channel is
