No matter what I use, I cannot seem to get the ring around the bottom of my shower to go away! Despite scrubbing for almost an hour today (and my shower is not that big), I could not get the ring to go away.

Now here is the key problem . . . my husband is a truck driver, comes home covered in grease or oil or who knows what else. Plus, we live in a red clay mud zone. Our yard isn't a yard yet, and still needs lots of work. So when he is not covered in truck driver yuck, he is covered in red clay mud yuck!

I am starting to not enjoy taking showers anymore, because I hate to clean the shower :scared1:. So please for the sake of my hygeine, please help me find something that will help knock out the yuck in my tub.:worship:

Thanks

Make him hose off in the yard!!!!:lmao:

No, seriously...I probably hate cleaning the shower as much as you do. Our water (hard, soft, whichever) makes horrible soap scum on that dumb fiberglass....impossible to clean, even if the product says it does...

But on to the grease and oil problem. I wonder if Dawn dish detergent would work? They use it to clean oil spills off waterfowl....might be worth a try.

We have an acrylic tub/shower. I use Joy dish detergent to clean it. If there is a buildup of soap scum, I wipe the tub with a dryer sheet (It really works! The tub is shiny and clean).

On a porcelain tub, toilet, sink you can use a pumice stone and it will remove the toughest stains and not scratch the porcelain.

Don't buy the expensive pumice stone for toilets from the hardware store. Walmart and Dollar General have pumice stones for a buck or 2 in the same aisle as fingernail clippers, etc.

soft scrub with bleach, and a gentle scrub pad works on my soap rings...

Magic Easer I know this sounds dumb but really try it They make them for the bathroom ( they seem to hold up better then the reg. ones)
I use the Clorox bathroom cleaner and the Magia Eraser and it is sparkly clean . Even our housekeeper asked me what I used !

My DH is a truck driver too & I can really understand what OP is going through :sad2: The Ultra Dawn with a non-scratch pad (like Dobie sp? brand) really does work!:dance3:

liguid fabric softener works to take some things off you could try it. I got some rust stains out of my tub with it.

The best thing I have ever used for cleaning my tub is baking soda and dish detergent. Wet a scrubber and then dip in the mxture to make a paste. Then all you have to do is scrub away. Works REALLY well, takes less effort on my part, no chemical smell, and my tub stays cleaner longer.

I second the dryer sheet. I used comet and dyer sheet and cleans my tub clean. Thank for the OP that post that get the stain out my tub.

There was a similar thread about this awhile back, and a few people mentioned The Works Tub and Shower cleaner. Dollar Tree usually has it, and I've also found it at Big Lots. It's only $1 a bottle, so I was pretty doubtful that it would actually work well.

My DS's shower literally looked liked a science experiment. It had every color of mold that you can imagine, as well as a thick layer of soap scum. (Don't trust a teenage boy to clean his own bathroom and neglect to check it for several months, lol.) I bought a couple of bottles of this stuff, and handed it to him with a scrubby sponge. Less than an hour later, it looked like a totally different shower. I couldn't believe it.

Our shower in the master bath gets pretty nasty too, since DH does highway construction. This is the best thing I've found to clean it with. It does smell pretty bad, so be sure to ventilate well. Also, don't get it on the metal faucets, etc.

Be sure to keep the pumice stone wet as you work or you will scratch the porcelain. It will remove hard water buildup.

I was going to post this exact product. It's the only thing I use on my tub/shower. Seriously! If you spray it on and wait about 3 minutes it comes clean with very little scrubbing. A couple of tips...don't wait too long after spraying to wipe it off. Do a small section at a time. As the PP said, be sure to turn on your fan, open a window if you have one and leave the door open. The fumes are strong. I buy the spray bottle. I don't wet the tub before spraying it. You may want to wear rubber gloves as it really dries out your hands.

It works wonders on the handles and spigot. Gets them really shiny with minimal wiping.

I ruined a spigot using this stuff, so it must depend on what yours is made of. Maybe test a hidden spot first?

There is a "The Works" toilet cleaner which also removes hard water buildup.

Where do you buy it in a spray bottle? I can only find the kind that squirts. I love this stuff...it's hard to believe it's so cheap!

WAIT!!! STOP!! Please do not use an abrasive unless you absolutely have to after trying every other cleaner known to man.

Once you get shower clean I too like the mr cleans sponge things for cleaning shower.

Once shower is clean soap scum an hard water spots removed use car wax (any kind will work) on sides of shower an along the very edge in about 2 inches on bottom of tub not the whole bottom...

About every 3 to 6 months wax again...Since I started waxing I have not had to clean tub or shower I spray on the tilex type of cleaner (not daily cleaner) let it set while I clean rest of bathroom then rinse. Sponge off the ledges where water collects an I done takes less than 5 mins.

The wax only works if you have not removed the shinny protective coatin off porcilen for fiberglass..
