Hi all,

We have our fist trip home planned for Oct 6 - Oct 11. We have set this trip aside to celebrate a 14 year olds birthday. We celebrated the 9 year olds birthday in April, so we are looking for different things that might entice the 14 year old.

We are flying down, and one of the first surprises will be a limo waiting to pick us up. They will take us to SSR (which is not our "home" resort, but it is the 2nd surprise!). We have planned to do Chef Mickey's one day, and we are gooing to MNSSHP on Friday.

When we asked the 14 year old what she wanted to do, she said a funny dinner show, but not Hoop dee do (we have done that several times).

We were thinking maybe a trip to Planet Hollywood, but past that, we have no idea what else to plan. We haven't had a 14 year old in the house since I was 14 (many, many years ago). Any suggestions will be appreciated and if you know of a funny dinner show that is not Hoop Dee Do, please, please let me know!

Thanks in advance

Not a dinner show, but for an awesome experience for a 14 yr old I'd recommend Cirque du Soleil if you can still get tickets for Oct. They do 2 shows nightly (6:30 and 9:00, I believe) so you could combine it with Planet Hollywood or another DD restaurant.... I remember seeing my first Broadway musical at age 15 and it still stands out in my memory - Cirque is like a combination of circus, music and dance could be just as awesome for the 14 yr old, a great birthday surprise in my opinion.

close to WDW - I don't think of any - there is the Mystery thing at one of the DD hotels.

there are several in Kissimme

you can see which ones from this website
http://www.ticketmania.com/discounttickets.shtml

then you can search which ones you think your 14 years old will like - I suggest asking on the restuarant board.

arabian nights
dolly parish dixie stampede
medieval times

oh the mystery show
MurderWatch at Mystery Theatre over at the Grosvernor in DD hotel plaza
Pirates dinner adventure

these are the ones I have heard good review.

the arabian nights - varies greatly - if you get there early and get a good seat - I think you will love it - if you arrived later and get a bad seat you will hate it - this places holds a lot of people.

I love surprising my family at WDW may I suggest Mickey's Back Yard Bar-b-Que.
It's alot of fun and the food is good, also if they know you are celebrating a special day they'll make a big deal. only draw back is you should probaly like country music.

another idea is to take her on one of the tours, All the parks offer them, find one that would interest her and book it. also how about a trail ride or maybe parasailing? lots of options I hope you find one that will make her day all that much more special.

you mentioned CMickey's how about the princess Breakfast at Norway?
enjoy your vacation and welcome home

feralpeg (a fellow DIS'er) does really cute gift baskets that she delivers free to WDW resorts. They are very reasonably priced. The one below is Halloween themed but I'm sure she can do a birthday one if you prefer. You can PM her yourself if interested or send one to me and I'll forward the pricing info. I received from her.

Last January we celebrated our son's 8th b'day and had dinner at Chef Mickey's, then we swam at the Contemporary for about an hour, then we rented a pontoon boat w/ driver to see the Wishes Fireworks Show. It was awesome! Everybody loved it , and we made it a surprise. I don't know if it is too late to make ressies though.

This site has some great ideas for special occasions at WDW, but if you're on a limited budget it is probably not the way to go:

Have a great trip and Happy Birthday to the almost 14 year old!

:bday: :cake:

P.S. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is geared towards youngsters imho. Almost all of the kids dancing and participating were under 10. I took my 13 year old and she didn't enjoy it at all, thought it was too babyish. Plus I personally found the food to be not particularly good, especially for the price they charge. We were very disappinted and left early. Others can certainly disagree, just mho.

I agree with Beacher and Poorman. Cirque Du Soliel will blow her mind! It's unlike any show you've ever seen. She'll love it. Good luck with her birthday plans. I'll be celebrating my birthday at Disney too! My B-day is the 10th, although i'm SLIGHTLY older than her.
