I'm trying to find a really fun present for my niece who just turned 1 yrs old. I find it so hard to shop for that age. I don't want to buy her clothes & no gift card-I really want to pull together a really fun gift.

I'd like to spend between $50-$100.

I was thinking about getting her a rocking horse, but I think it might be alot of work for the parents at this age. Do they make rocking horses with secured seating so she is a little more independent?

Any other great birthday gift ideas?

Thanks!:goodvibes

Is she walking yet? My DD had one of those pull along dogs that rolled behind her and played B I N G O the whole time. Drove us INSANE, but she LOVED that toy. In fact she's now 6 and asked me where it was juts the other day! It's LONG gone ;)

My son was given a rocking horse for his 1st birthday. He loved that horse! It was made by Fisher-Price. This was back in 1993. It wasn't too high off the ground. We did have to hold him at first, but he caught on pretty fast and wanted to do it by himself.

I would also suggest a small wagon. Also those toys that you can pull with a short string. My son would sit on the sofa, slowly pull the string up to the sofa's edge and laugh when the toy came into view. He would do it over and over again. It was too funny! Building blocks, stackable rings, sorting shapes, puzzles with large pieces.

one of the coolest toys my kids had was the fisher price laugh and learn learning home. truly a ton of fun!

if you want to go with a rocking horse, they make all kind, even smaller sized plush ones that are easier for younger children to use. we used to have one that was a catepillar. so cute!

One is a little young for that ... more towards 18 months or so for that one.
I like any of the bigger fisher price toys ... the home is good, as is that seat with the little table, lamp and book if they still make it. Does she have a shoping cart? DS LOVES his shopping cart and if she is just walking it's a good support for her.

Fisher Price Baby Grand Piano
Fisher Price Singalong Stage
Fisher Price Busy Day Home

Those music tables
Fisher Price makes a cool Elmo Restaurant but she might be a touch young for that.

My DS was a big fan of the vaccum and push lawn mower at that age too.

This is cute:

My DS got a FP basketball hoop at that age, I think it was the laugh and learn series but I can't remember. He loved that and all kids regardless of age love to dunk things!!

A small ball pit!

I think this looks neat, BUT, would probably require a parent to be right there watching the whole time. As a parent, I would probably prefer something, like that home thing, that didn't require constant supervision. i.e. I could clean up the room while baby played. I'm going to find a link to the one we had. I'll post in a sec. :)

Hmm...it's cute and I like your idea about keeping the baby entertained without constant supervision, but I'd like something a little more bouncy and active for her.

We LOVE to give the Playskool busy ball popper as gifts. It makes little ones laugh & laugh every time they see it, and even the big kids like it!

I love to give the Fisher Price Little People sets.... I have given all my nieces and friends' kids the farmhouse (a classic... my favorite as a child), the doll house, the parking garage, the train set... they have a lot of different sets and most of them are appropriate for age 1+. Fisher Price's website has some stuff that is exclusive to their online store too. I find that their stuff is always well received and great quality. You can shop on their site by age to find stuff she would be able to play with now.

Another idea I did for my nieces is an add a pearl necklace... I buy the chain and one pearl as the intial gift then for birthdays/special occasions you can buy additional pearls. I do the 6mm pearls and they are $26 each. When it is completed, they will have a beautiful pearl necklace worth a lot of money and with a sentimental history behind it.

Some ideas:

Rody Horse (~$50)

Octotunes (~$25)

I babysit for a friend of mine sometimes, I ordered this when her daughter turned 1 and she loved it. :goodvibes The seat is removeable, she's 3 1/2 now and still loves it.

I got my cousins son for his first birthday one of those power wheels atv's for the littler kids (not the big jeep) - with in a month he was driving that thing all over the place, would come out of his bedroom, drive through the kitchen, down the hallway and made all the turns! He would ride all over the backyard with it too- he is three now and they always said it was the best gift he ever got! They just had a daughter so she will be getting a pink one for her first birthday!
