Here is an email I sent out tonight to every friend in my address book. I wanted to share it with another community of friends ....the Dissers. I am sure with prayers and postings we can find a match for Mason.
Dear Friends,
Mason Kelly is a very sick little 20 month old boy who only has one chance for survival....a bone marrow transplant. My family has been very friendly with Mason's for years, in fact I used to babysit his mom Lindsay and his aunts Kerry and Jenny. Lindsay grew up in Smithfield with me but now lives in the Chicago area. This all came up out of the blue, not that any of this would be easy even if they had a warning. On Memorial Day weekend little Mason had a fever that would not quit so he was sent to the ER and the rest has been a nightmare of a roller coaster for Lindsay, Reid and Mason and their whole family. Now they have one chance and someone out there is that chance.
My heart is breaking as due to my cancer situation I can not be eligible to be tested as a possible donor. My hope is that by telling everyone about this we will find the right person.
Please, please, please consider being tested as a bone marrow donor for Mason. Last weekend they had a drive in Illinois with 400 people, I am praying we have at least that number this Saturday at Smithfield High.
Testing at the drive is free and involves a cheek swab and some paper work. Should only take 20 minutes but could give this little boy his life. Imagine that, his life is literally in the hands of a kind stranger. I get chills every time I think that somewhere out here is the only hope he has.
For more info on Mason, his story, and the health guidelines please visit his web site. www.caringbridge.org/visit/masonkelly
For more info on the donor drive please click on the Smithfield High flyer attached or call me. note: it is this Sat 9/8 from 10-2 at Smithfield High in Smithfield, RI
Please forward this to as many people as you can!!!!! Even people not in Rhode Island can be tested, just visit the web site for more info.
Also I ask everyone to remember Mason in their prayers.
Thank you.
Kate
