please help--questions re: timeshare for 6 nights

we are looking for a 2 bedroom timeshare for a week starting either 1/15 or 1/16 for an upcoming 8 night vacation. have been checking skyauction and getravelop.

it might still be cost effective to rent one on 1/14 and only use it for 6 nights, spending the last two nights at POP.

here are my questions:

1) how easy is it to do this? does it happen often enough that it doesn't create problems at the timeshare?

2) does it mean that basically we'll be the last ones checking in and so we'll get the worst location? both skyauction and getravelop have told me they can't guaranty a handicap accessible room, but we'll have an electric scooter that we'll have to drive into the room to recharge each night, so we'll have to have either ground floor or an elevator building. would checking in a day late compromise this?

3) would you do it if nothing opened up at a good rate for 1/15 or 1/16? vistana resort for 1/14 went for something like $65 on skyauction recently. sounded good, but i was too worried about late check-in to try for it. what do you think? have you checked-in a day late before? where? did it go smoothly?

are you talking about 2005? If you are I would 14, 15, or 16.

you are going during off-season - so your room request will probably be meet.

after you win your resort - send them an email (Sheraton Vistana has an easily one to get too) - or fax them with your request.

some timeshare have elevators.

but most guests don't really want the handicapped rooms - so I just don't think you will have a problem.

January 2005 Vistana Resort is closing again in a few hours and the current bid is only $3.

please - did anyone ever check into a timeshare a day later and did that go smoothly or cause problems?

you won't have a problem - call the resort about 2 weeks (or less) before you arrival -explain that you won't be checkin until the second day.

understand that the payment is for 7 days (not 6) and no money will be refunded to you.

yes - we did it - not planned - I over slept the morning of the trip - and everything did not go smoothly - so it was evening before we left and it was the next morning before we arrived - not a problem.


if you call before hand and tell them you will be arriving late - I would think you would have less problems.

I called Vistana Resort today and asked. She didn't think arriving a day later would be a problem--nor a problem about having an accessible timeshare either.

Anyone else who can share an experience? Maybe with a different resort?

This is a late reply--I was looking for other info and found your post. We have done a day late check in twice on RCI exchanges and it was no problem at all.

Good info to know that you can check in late with no problems. I have only done one timeshare, but plan to do more, hopefully.

we don't have a timeshare lined up yet and it's less than three weeks away! getravelop says lots will come up in the next few days, but i'm VERY nervous!

I booked at week at Boambee Bay Club (AU) through RCI knowing that we wouldn't check-in until almost mid-week. I phoned them and found them very understanding. We had no problems on our arrival.
