DH, DD, DS, me, DG-pa, DG-ma are all going to WDW in Jan. My husband and I are AP holders so the new package does not apply to us. (unless we don't use our AP's) In August they changed the AP rules and each AP holder can only reserve one room so we made 2 room ressies and put myself in one room and my DH in the other. We are hoping for a great AP rate and we would be able to apply it to both rooms. My mom is freaking out that the AP will suck and we will be screwed. I called 407 tonight and got more details then I began crushing numbers...

Visa deal with Tax for 2 adults…$200 must be charged on Disney Visa

9 nights at POP with 9 day hopper and water fun and more 586.95 X 2 = 1173.90

9 nights at POP with 9 day hopper water fun and more AND with dining 928.86 X 2 = 1857.72

Dining cost for 2: 683.82 /2 = 341.19 / 10 =34.19

Water Park at more ticket: 318.00 X 2 = 636.00

2 dining + 2 water and more pass = 1316.92

So another words if you are going to do the package you might as well add the food because where else can you get to eat all day for 34.19 .... according to the CM NO WHERE... So I better book it.

Does this make sense? is this really that big of a deal?

Here is what I was thinking
9 day hopper: 237.50 plus 45.00 for hopper X 2 = 565.00
9 days with AP 40%: 498.15 or 55.00
9 days with AP 30% 581.00 or 63.00
(The AP rates were my guesses)

So now I am trying to figure out what to do and of course the CM reminded me that there are only so many package rooms avilable so don't delay .... BUT THE AP IS NOT OUT YET.... GURRR

Give me input!!!!

Ok first thing that caught my eye was that you did the dining plan by 10 days but if your only there 9 nights you only get it for 9 days. It's the number of nights. So that will increase your math on that a little.

Next when do the AP rates typically come out ?

Because you could always book the package and if a good Ap rate comes out cancel it and go back to the AP rate rooms. But of course that would have to be before the 45 day mark since packages have to be paid in full 45 days in advance. I have no idea if the AP rates would be out in time ?

And remember the dining plan goes to the new one in January so you would still have to pay gratutity on top of your meals. And no appies included.

I am not a fan of the dinning plan .. never have been. I thought you had the dinning plan everyday from check-in until check out. Thanks for the clarification.
AP rates will be out on Thursday....Nov 1

I don't usually have much to say on these because I am learning myself but I suspect it will be hard to get an AP rate for the first part of January (I am hoping for one myself) because even though that is Value season, Disney is still pretty full.

If you plan to do character meals, know that the first week is holiday pricing at Chef Mickey's and others which is approximately $5.00 more per adult, which really irks me.

I am running the same numbers and feel your headache pain. I have an AP and we are staying at AKL. I can't decide about the dining plan but don't think we'll do it this time for the first time ever.

I probably didn't help you one bit. Sorry.
I guess if you get an AP rate, that sounds like the better deal to me and gives you more flexibility.

One day may not matter (since rumor is that AP rates will be out November 1); however, I would book the package and cancel if you get a better AP rate. You will get the $ refunded, so there isn't really a downside to booking the trip for a few days just in case.

I would hold out for the AP rates. I used to think the dining was a good deal - but they've changed it for next year - same price, no appetizers and tip not included.

You'd be better off getting a Disney Dining Experience card for your 20% discount on meals.

Supposedly the AP rates are out.
The dining plan in Jan is $37.99 pp adult and no longer includes appetizer or tip so keep that in mind as well.
I don't understand the 9 day park hoppers if you have APs or is that only for the others in the party? you can't book the dining plan unless everyone in the room is on the plan and has at least a 1 day base ticket, AP's would have to buy a ticket.
