Please Help: My Dog Killed My Other Dog Today-Updated Post #166

My dogs are my children and I can't imagine the heartbreak and grief you are going through. :grouphug: Hugs and prayers to you. Lola died with her mommys arms around her and that must have put her at peace.
I hope you find a solution to Paisley that you can come to grips with.
RIP Lola.

Oh my goodness!! That's so terrible! If you need to talk I'm here. I have no advice, but to scold Paisley. If you act said around Paisley, he can sense it, and might realized what he did..just a though. Prayers for you!

There isn't anything you could have done, Christine.

there where several signs and little action was taken. A person was bit. The dogs had to be seperated and could never be left alone together. Giving this dog a second/third chance had a grave outcome.

I am sorry, this reply will probably make the OP even more upset, but it is intended to help others who find themselves in the early stages of the same situation.

A very similar thing happened to me: I got Nanuk affectionately called Nooky, before I was married in 1988. After we got married in 1990 we added a german shepard female, Bandit. Nooky hated the dh but loved everyone else. Bandit was a warm gentle shepard who fell out of a moving vehicle, and consequently we could never get her near a car so she was not fixed. You just can't make a 90 pound dog get into a car when they don't want to. Anyway, she had 2 litters of pups which we gave away. She died when hit by a semi 3 years ago. Nooky mourned and cried. A friend of mine realized she had Bandit's granddaughter and gave her to me. Sasha was a mixed breed dog, shepard, and what appeared to be chow. While i was at work one day, sasha attacked nooky and killed him. I was devastated. I didn't even blink though in putting sasha down. with three kids, i wouldn't take that chance. i cried like a baby over nooky, he had nursed me to health from near death once, kept my feet warm at night, screened my dates, listened and watched for danger, and was my one of my best friends. I think sometimes maybe pets are angels with fur..I'm tearing up as I'm writing this...sorry

:grouphug:

I'm so sorry for your loss. You did the best you could have and you cannot blame yourself. You could not have possibly watched the dogs 24/7.

My aunt was once in the same situation - her larger standard poodle killed her new yorkie puppy after about a month or so. My aunt ended up sending the poodle to a farm. (Or else she put it down and just told me that. I'm thinking now . . . )

You are continuing to investigate and getting the doctor's advice, which is for the best. The only thing I could think of is that maybe Paisley's tear is from Lola fighting for her life. Or else Paisley got caught on something or by another animal and thought it was Lola which spurred the incident. There are a few possibilities, I guess. Just a sad situation all around.

Another poster mentioned "cycoteyes". I googled this and didn't come up with anything. I don't think I've ever heard of these animals. Then again, I live in NJ, near NYC and except for housepets, I pretty much only see pigeons, stray cats and squirrels.

I would have put Paisley down the first time they got into a fight and your dad ended up being bit. The dog is vicious. It is too late for Lola but I would not want to eveh have Paisley anywhere near me. Poor Lola.

I am so sorry for your loss... :sad1: I feel so bad for you and the trauma you just suffered... Please know it is not your fault... As much as we love our pets, we must remember they are not human, therefore we can not ever fully be sure of their actions... I would definitely speak to your vet but I would not make any decision until you have come out of shock from the experience... :grouphug:

I hope for your sake it turns out to be another animal. I have to say, before reading your second response, I thought that it could have been something else. I'm so sorry for what you've gone through today.

I've been bitten before, and it didn't necessarily mean the dog was vicious. In this case, it turned out badly. I think the OP did the best that she knew how at the time and is now trying to determine what she needs to do.

Christine,
I'm so sorry. What an awful experience. I'll pray you can peace no matter hw this ends up.

She asked for opinions and I gave mine. I think the dog should have been put down long ago. The OP obviously knew Paisley was a problem or she would not have went to such great lengths to keep the dog away from her other dog. Very sad for Lola that it just didn't work out. Paisley needs to go.

I'm so sorry, Christine.

I've only read quickly through the first page of posts. Perhaps I'm the only one sticking up for your other dog. As I was reading your post, I couldn't help but picture that pup being "on the outside" so to speak...the small one was in the house snuggled on your lap while the other dog was outside all the time. I'm not really surprised about a fight. You said the little one was your "baby." I'm sure the other was the baby until this one came in.

I would keep the dog you have, but I certainly wouldn't be bringing in any other animals. Hugs for you!

:grouphug:

Christine, I don't have any advice (and I sure hope others are kind to you in their responses), but I wanted you to know that I'm thinking about you.

Don't beat yourself over being able to prevent the tragedy if you'd only been doing something else. There is no way you could have predicted this.

Please take care of yourself and your son. It sounds like the two of you have had quite a shock today. :sad2:

Take care,

Suzanne
