I am having a memories wedding on october 11. It was/is rather last minute.

I had learned here that people had hired outside photographers so I looked into it. I found randy chapman and he was available and I was psyched. His rates are much better than disney's and I'd get the rights to the images and the disks. Awesome right? I'm waiting on him to send me contract info so I can send a deposit. I don't want to appear as bridezilla. I've emailed twice and am waiting.

Anyway I got my Disney contract emailed to me yesterday, and I hadn't realized that I have to forfeit the Disney one if I hire another! It's included in the package! Shouldn't I be able to have more than one? I should not be surprised by this but I'm bummed! They told me it'd be $500 for the rights to my images... Randy would have given me more time and images and charged less. Since I haven't heard back from him, I don't know what to do on this contract.

It would be better to call him - he is having issues with his emails.

I'm doing a Memories wedding in February 2014, and I decided to go with an outside photographer as well. Even though I'm having a budget wedding by most people's standards, the photography is extremely important to me. Part of the reason that I decided to go with an outside photographer was because I wanted to be guaranteed to get one that I was happy with as opposed to putting in a request for one of the Disney ones and *hoping* that they would be available on my day. If they weren't available, I did not want to get stuck with some random. On top of that, Disney only provides the photographer for one hour and you only get 20 pictures. If you want more time or more pictures, it's going to cost you more (as you already know :)). For me, it was more cost effective to go elsewhere.

In regards to Disney not allowing you to use their photographer if you hire an outside photographer: the contract for the outside photographer that I hired actually states that they will be the only professional photographer on site during the time that I've hired them for, so I'm thinking that this is standard policy. If you think about it, it makes sense because 2 photographers don't want to be "fighting" each other trying to get the perfect shots.

With that being said, it still sucks that Disney does not offer any sort of substitutions when you opt out of something :(
