Ok I am so on the fence right now.... we purchased 200 SSR points this past Oct and we missed the 15% by one day! so i have been going back and forth with my advisor and his boss for 2 months now to get this rectified,. well after a long wait the best they could do was offer us 130 one time use developer points which are dues free......that is unacceptable as the street value per DVC is 1200.00 the 15% would have saved us 3000.00 so then we told them we wanted to sell back and they thought that was a good idea as we can repurchase with the 15% off???? why would they put us thru this hassle when in the end we will still get the 3000.00 off????? so of course this made my bf FURIOUS! He wants nothing to do with the DVC.....

I want him to reconsider as I just checked the rates for AKL and for the two weeks we would have used our points for will cost 3700.00!!!!! that is more then we would pay in the year for the DVC loan and dues!!!

What should I do my dear DVC friends!!!

thanks in advance!

Did you receive any incentive when you purchased in Oct? I thought they were running a $8 disc at that time. If you did get the $8 disc per point, than the 130 one time points wouldn't be a bad deal. You could rent them and apply the money to your loan.

As a DVC member since 2001 I can tell you to give them another chance. The bad experiences like you had are rare. Perhaps you can price a resale from The Timeshare store or just stick with Disney. The good times will far outweight this bad experience.

I am another one that says hang in there.... our only regret with DVC is that we didn't buy sooner. That is something you'll hear from a lot of people. Not sure if selling and re-buying would solve your problems as there would be closing costs involved etc. I'd go back to your guide for more points.

Escalate, escalate, escalate. Forget Florida this calls for a letter to Bob Iger. I had a similar problem and I just sent a fax or two to Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney Corp, and it was taken care of the next day. I will PM you the fax number I used. I am not sure it is good anymore since it was years ago that I did this. I had a problem with their handling of the cruise. It was the maiden voyage and they just cancelled it. I was out airfare, kennel fees, care for my mother, vacation pay etc etc. .. I got a new cruise date, with two concierge level cabins for myself + hubby and another for my sister for the price of the one port-hole cabin we were going to have. The suites were gigantic and sumptuous with separate living rooms and two bathrooms and sunken tubs in both plus a private concierge to make sure we got everything we wanted. Anyway, Jim the new GM doesn't want to hear (from his boss in CA) that you were treated anyway but the Disney Way. Write or fax a note right away. You will be surprised at the results! Look for the PM.

Take the 130 points and be happy with it. You clearly stated that you missed the 15% bonus. They really didn't have to do anything for you. As for selling it back, there is no such thing. DVC doesn't buy back contracts from someone. They do exercise ROFR but that involves you going through the resale market. The only way to "get out of" a contract is during the first ten days after you sign the papers. I'm assuming since you are posting here that the 10 days are up. Selling it through resale and then re-purchasing seems silly. Tell your BF to relax a little and enjoy all the years of vacations. Hopefully you didn't purchase with BF as BF's have a way of becoming EX BF's. That is for another topic, however on a different board. Bottom line is that DVC is a great program and once this head ache is behing you you'll be so glad you did this. Forget you ever heard about the 15%, it is till a good deal. Take the 130 and hey who knows maybe I'll rent them from you. Good luck and talk some sense into BF. DVC is good people. :goodvibes

I agree. .. you have already gotten the $8 discount so you would not save an additional $3000 (it's an either/or incentive) - only another $1340. On our Rent/Trade Board, few have had difficulty renting their points for $10 each and some have been able to rent for even more- thus the 130 developer points would seem to be a pretty nice adjustment to the contract to me. It is very difficult for a business like DVC to back-date incentives. I realize that you missed it by only one day (as did probably many others who purchased at the same time), but at some point they can't really go back and offer an incentive that wasn't in existence when someone purchased. Looks like they are really trying to please.

I'd grab the offer they are making now and run. Sounds like a very generous deal to me.

Thank you thank you!

I have talked to BF ( he is actually my Fiance' but I wasnt sure of the online abbreviation! )

Here is the problem.....yes we missed the deal by 1 day but we were not approved for another 2weeks! Our advisor has already apologized to us for not calling us immediately about the new offer. I do not blame him, mistakes happen. My problem is the lack of "disney service" and by that I mean making us wait over 2 months to advise us to "sell back" why couldnt they have told us that in the first place?

As for the resale....I dont know what has happened in the past but our advisor and his superior offered us a full no strings buyback direct from Disney so we can do a repurchase with the 15% off. they know they screwed up bigtime.

I am just not sure if I can forgive and forget the hassle we have been put thru... I want to, as I love the concept of the DVC but I am a bit gun-shy after seeing how far south this went before being resolved.

icy-dog: thanks for the contact info! I dont have anything to lose , I will fire out some letters!

Again,
Thanks for all your help everyone. It is nice to be able to get opinions and advice from such educated vacationers!
