Please help me write a letter of recommendation

A friend of mine called this morning and asked me to write a letter of recommendation for her. She is applying for a nursing scholarship that our local hospital gives students in nursing school who agree to work at our hospital after graduation for so many years. (my brother is vice-chairman of the hospital board- that may be another reason she wants a letter from me) I have known her since we were children and she used to babysit my younger DD, but I just don't know what to write. Someone please help!!

I would just write that I had known 'betty sue' since childhood and that she has always presented herself to be 'honest, caring, dependable...etc". whatever it is that you know her to be. Make it an honest letter. Write from the heart.
I have applied for several scholarships over the years and needed letters such as the one you have been asked to provide. I always asked people that had known me for several years, and teachers that I had had.
At the end of the letter it wouldn't hurt to add that you know she would be a great asset to this organization....
