My husband has had a very difficult year with the loss of his father in an accident, so I was trying to go all out for his birthday to make it special. We will be celebrating his birthday in WDW on December 30, and I am trying to get ideas. All of the guide books that I have read are not very helpful at all, as they only have about a paragraph regarding adult birthdays. If anybody has ideas I would sure appreciate them, as I am trying to get a whole day of surprises planned for him. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. It's never easy to lose a parent. Especially when it's unexpected. My thoughts are with you.

Does your husband like NASCAR? They have a Richard Petty driving experience at WDW. I'm getting that for my husband for our 10th Anniversary. It's a surprise.

You could check it out at wdwinfo.com/recreation. It's under Richard Petty, I think.

Hope this helps.

TTFN,
Maria

Be sure to pick up a birthday button at guest relations at each park. That will get you Happy Birthday wishes as you pass by Cast members. We also got a phone call from Goofy at an attraction.

Just remember if you want something special to happen arrange for it yourself. Don't depend on Disney doing something special for you.

We'll be there in December to celebrate my husband's birthday on the 31st! Is your DH interested in fishing at all? We plan to avoid the parks that day because of the crowds, so I'm arranging a fishing trip for him in the morning, we're going to have lunch at the ESPN club in the afternoon, and we're heading to Fort Wilderness for the Hoop-Dee-Doo that evening. Should be a great day!

Hope your husband has a wonderful birthday :)

vr4,
Sorry to hear about your loss.

On a brighter note, start his day with a character birthday breakfast, like at Chef Mickey's in the contemporary. If he is a big kid, like me, he will get a kick out of it, especially when the characters come around and you get his picture with all of them.

Definitely get the birthday pin. Every CM will tell him "Happy Birthday".

They have birthday cruises, or so I've heard, but am not sure about the specifics. I think you call the same number that you use to book a regular cruise, but tell them its a birthday cruise.

A nice dinner at the Yachtsman Steak House or California Grille to wrap up the evening is a nice touch.

Just make him King for a day.

We will be there at that time. What is his name so we can look for him (like there wont be 40 million other people there) and wish him Happy Birthday.

Hope y'all have a great time!

I'm going to be celebrating my birthday on December 30th too! I wish my DH would plan it but it's up to me. This is our first day at the parks and the last day they are having the CP. I was thinking of Chef Mickey's too but then I booked a CP package for that night and thought I should save the breakfast for a different day. We are having dinner at San Angel Inn and seeing the CP at 8:15. I can't wait! I'm going to the MK in the morning because I wanted to be there for part of my birthday.
Does anyone know if I can still tell them it's my birthday when I go to chef Mickey's. OMG I'm such a baby. It's just that when it comes to my birthday (being inbetween christmas and new years) I'm usually left out in the cold. But not this year for the big 45!
Oh and I'm going to try to book a fireworks cruise during our trip too. That would be a nice surpise for him. Good luck and have fun planning I know I am.

For my DH 40th last August, I booked a special event with Jane at www.giftsofalifetime.com and it was worth every penny (cent). You fill out quite a long questionnaire online and she emails you back with suggestions of what they might be interested in. DH had an Indiana Jones treasure hunt with clues scattered around the park and then finally leading to treasure that was prearranged and included Disney Dollars, chocloates etc. He had a great time, and still talks about how much fun it was solving the clues etc. if we went again for a family members birthday I definatly would contact Jane again for her ideas!

I'm celebrating my 40th Birthday in WDW on Dec 24th....and while I was hoping for a surprise day while I was there DH just got me an awesome gift while still at home....More DVC points....

But If he were to do something the giftofalifetime sound really neat and I wanted to do the Richard Petty Experience....

For my dh next month I'm calling POR before we arrive to order balloons for our room, we have res at Chef Mickeys for dinner and I'll arrange to get a cake. I'm also getting the nascar experience of a lifetime(he's a big fan). The gifts of a lifetime site looks like a great idea. You can also order baskets or flowers check out

I "surprised" my husband with a trip to WDW in February. He figured out that we were going, but did not know any of the details. So the resort we were staying at and all the meals and activities for the days were surprises. It was a lot of fun watching him trying to figure out what we were going to do next. I planned meals at all his favorite restaurants and told them when I made the PS's that it was his birthday. The servers all wished him happy birthday at every meal. The CM's at the AKL had made him a magical moments certificate and left it in the room. My mom had called in advance and arranged a gift basket through the WDW Florist (by the way - if you're staying at AKL they don't allow balloons). I also planned a birthday fireworks cruise for Illuminations. They decorated the boat with balloons and banners and took us out for an hour or so. It was really wonderful. The boat holds up to 12 people - it was just the two of us on ours - and they can have a birthday cake on the boat if you'd like. Well, he really enjoyed himself and we're going back for his birthday next year.

One set of Mouse Ears, one "Do Not Disturb" sign.

I'm a man, we're simple creatures...

We once celebrated dh's birthday at disney. I asked him what he wanted and all he said was I want to eat lunch in the castle because I want to be treated like a king. He enjoyed it alot and we have the souvenir mug as a keepsake but the biggest memory he has is when a whole friendship boat sang happy birthday to him. We had a great cm who asked if it was anyones birthday and of course all the 3 ds and I pointed at him.

But as the other posters said I would go for the fireworks cruise and my dh has enjoyed the fishing trip and parasailing also, Might be too cold for that in dec. The espn club is good if he is into sports or something romantic for the 2 of you or something more inclusive for a family such as a character meal. The opportunites are endless. Maybe a dinner show for family fun such as HDD, Ohana or Luau.

Like someone mentioned before they do have b-day cruises where they decorate the boat and have cake and drinks, they also have a romantic cruise version aboard the Grand one yacht which is pricey but a great experience. The RPDE is great , i've gotten it as a gift before. Gifts of a life time are great , you might want to go straight to the website and call since it is soon, they can also decorate your hotel room while you are gone that would be a big surprise. Also if you would like a romantic dinner, my suggestion would be the Chef's Table at Victoria and Alberts in the Grand Floridian , once again very pricey I dont know what you are budgetting for, but the chef specially prepares meals for your own taste in a private dinning room. The Port orleans riverside and the ft wilderness resorts offer carriage rides for about $30 and are so romantic and peaceful. You can also order cakes from most disney restaurants if you call the restaurant directly you can plan to have a few surprise cakes. The fireworks view from the california grill in the contemporary is incredible so you might want to have a dinner there. Also the Grand Floridian sap offer a grand romantic evening package where you can get massages by candlelight together if you're interested.

We are celebrating my DH's 40th bday with a trip to Disney. His bday was in July but our trip is in Oct. We are doing a character bkfst at Ohana. Will they still sing Happy Birthday to him?

I'm pretty sure they can , try calling the restaurant directly to arrange it before hand, they also can probably provide a cake as do most of the restaurants, if you cant call ahead of time let the hostess know when you arrive.
