Please help me with portion sizes

Has anyone been to tutto italia, or yak & yeti? Please give me portion sizes out of 10. (1 very small) (10 very huge). I need portio sizes for these two places. Again we are really huge eating machines.

We've eaten at both a number of times, most recent being last September. Both Tutto Italia and Yak & Yeti have decent sized servings, with Yak and Yeti having slightly larger portions. I've never been able to finish a meal at either place. I would rank each around 8/10, but that's based on my opinion, and we're definitely not big eaters. Your mileage may vary. ;)

To give you an idea, here's some pictures from Tutto Italia. I'm afraid I don't have any from Yak & Yeti, but there's no shortage of them posted in the food picture thread, just do a search.

If you want to meet the princesses, why not book an ADR for the Princess Storybook Dining at Askershus in Epcot? It's only 1 credit each and there's a buffet portion as well as a plated portion so you could always visit the buffet for more if you need to. Just a thought.

Well Tutto Italia looks like we will be fine then. Have you also been to Chefs to? Which has larger portion Chefs or Tutto? I prefer not to go to Akershus, because we can meet the princesses without eating with them anyway, and also when we go to Epcot, we like to try food from other countries. We live in Egypt, and hardly get any food but Moroccan.

When we ate at Tutto they brought out loads of different kinds of bread and kept refilling. You won't go hungry there!

I had pasta at Tutto and it was quite a large serving. I didn't finish it. Plus, if you're concerned you could probably ask for extra bread.

I haven't eaten at Chef's in a long time, but it did fill me up. I had the tenderloin and it was quite small, but we split an appetizer and dessert so I was stuffed.

Are you on DDP ? Regular or deluxe ? From the sound of things you should stick with buffets for meals and use snack credits for indvidual requests. There is so-o-o much good food at WDW :stir: , it would be a shame for you to walk around hungry :worried:. Hope your wishes are fulfilled , good luck !! pixiedust:

I am on the regular DDP.

cannot comment on any but CRT. We think the portions have decreased since we first went in 2003 but are still plentiful. We are moderate eaters and often cannot manage three courses at restaurants but we would always manage a dessert at CRT quite easily. About a 5/10 for quantity for us but it could be much less for you.

Wow, how much do you eat?

I'm having a hard time believing this is serious. Are you really that concerned about this?

Also keep in mind that what you think is a smaller portion size may be large by someone else's standards. Maybe it's best to just stick to buffets if this is really an issue?

+1 I would just go to buffets: CP, Chef Mickey's, and the rest.

Yes this is kind of serious for us. We really do eat a lot. I am kind of concerned about it, because our whole family are huge eaters, and would just go starving if they don't eat enough. I know that huge portions for some people are small for other people. We are not unusual big eaters, just bigger than most people. I cannot just stick with buffets, because some of them don't have something our whole family likes, such as tusker house, and biergarten.
I hear you...when we travelled with the kids it seemed like there was never enough food. We did a lot of buffets, so everyone could eat what they liked. At most TS retaurants, my oldest would come away not hungry anymore, but would have eaten more if allowed. We always got the dining plan and so he used the snack credits to "supplement" the days when we did not do a buffet. Also remeber most of the TS offer bread and will refill it for free. That helped us a lot also. P.S. We feel happy now that when my son is home from from school we only have to cook 2 pounds of pasta for the family (of 4) and not 3 pounds cause he doesn't eat quite as much!!

I know it is not on your list but I recommend Boma for a buffet as the options were good and varied, they had a good carving station, and we all left full and happy. We are not big eaters and my spouse and Dad commented on wanting extra stomachs. Also, for CS credit the Wolfgang Puck Express was really good. Plenty to eat, and we had left overs some meals. Very good quality too. One of our favorite places. HAVE FUN!!

that is probably how much I eat then.

I've been to Sci-fi a few times with my family, and we all have healthy sized appetites. I think even the sandwiches at Sci-fi are generously sized and very filling, with a decent amount of fries and a small salad type side. I couldn't quite finish everything when I went last, so I'd say they are probably a 6 or 7/10 for us. Also, I know you didn't mention it, but T-Rex in DTD has a fun atmosphere and huge portions of really good food. Like 8 or 9/10 I'd say. :)

sci fi is very filling because of the milkshake which u can get as a drink.
instead of yak and yeti, what abt rainforest? I would imagine there ate bigger portions there?

or just go to another resort for dinner. that's quite convenient on an ak day. what abt cape may cafe for a seafood buffet? or better yet, Ohana?

I would book buffets if you are worried about portion sizes. I will say we have been to WDW 11 times in the last 6 years and neither one of us has ever said we weren't served enough food.

rainforest cafe isn't enough. I ate there before, and didn't like the food quality either. Plus its not on the DDP

Looks like your choice is Yak & Yeti or a resort hotel/DtD then. I would start prowling food reviews - lots of pics that will show you portion sizes.

By the way, Rainforest Cafe and TRex were added to DDP as well as a lot of DtD restaurants this year.

Snacks can also help fill the gap. A friend of mine ate at Teppan Edo last year and said he was still hungry after his meal. We went and shared 2 adult meals between the 4 of us...and walked out filled. Granted we were controlling portion sizes anyway but we also had snacks earlier, which made the difference. I had planned to get a CS to split after the meal to bridge the gap but we didn't end up needing to do so.

Good luck!! Also, maybe a good idea would be to budget some extra money to order extra apps when you feel its absolutely necessary. Or just grab a snack after the meal. I had budgeted some extra money to buy some extra CS meals/snacks. I didn't end up having to use it - but then didn't stress quite as much about our food consumption.

I have never come away hungry from any WDW restaurant and we hardly ever have appetisers. I thought the portion of meat/veggie/potato at CRT was huge and I could barely make a dent in the dessert. At SciFi I always have burgers and they are pretty large - I actually split one last time with my dd. CP is a buffet. I haven't been to the others.

I can't really comment on portion size since all is relative and it has been awhile since I have been BUT

Sci Fi...you can order a milkshake as your drink option, so a milkshake, decent sized burger and fries, and then a dessert should be pretty filling for most :confused3

Chefs de France...at least in 2012, you could order a pre-fixe menu on the DDP...this way you would get app, entree, and dessert. I got french onion soup, croque monsieur with a little salad and profiteroles (plus a baguette to start). I would not call the portions huge there, but with the ability to get the app, entree an dessert without paying extra...that is helpful.

Honestly, if it is that big of a deal, I would choose more buffets. For DHS day, you could do Cape May, for an AK day Boma or Tusker House

There are also AYCE served family style...Ohana, Garden Grill, HDDR, WCC skillet, Liberty Tree Tavern

If your children are wanting to meet the princesses, may I suggest Akershus in the Norway Pavillion at Epcot. They have a cold bar of cheeses, meats, salads, etc. that is all you can eat and then the entree sized portions that you are served are pretty generous (7/10) too. Along w/the dinner, you get a portrait w/one of the princesses. Ours was w/Belle and then the other princesses go around talking to each table like at CRT. My dd got to meet Ariel, Jasmine, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. They then start a little parade w/all the kids in the restaurant going through the different dining halls. It was well worth the 1 table service credit, imo. DD really enjoyed it and the food was good!:) Christine
