Please help me understand process - spoke to CM but still confused.

We have an on property reservation for October with park reservations already made. However, we are considering staying off property - CM says that I would need to cancel my existing park reservations and remake them. How do I do this and be sure that I rebook the whole week? Otherwise, we will stay on property (but for various reasons we need to consider staying off property this time). Just not sure the process since we have always stayed on property.

I think it's because there are different pools for Park Reservations right now. One pool for AP holders, one for on-property guests, and one for off-property guests. If you switch to off property then you have to be removed from one Park Reservation pool and get signed up for the other, based on availability.

This situation has not existed in the past, so past experience is not a factor.
The situation you describe (concerning on-property vs. off-property "park reservations") has only recently come into play due to the recent Covid closure and limited reopening.

You never know what will happen with Disney. We had park reservations for 23 days for a stay at animal kingdom lodge and Caribbean beach. We ended up renting a house so we could make our own food and drive our own car without paying resort parking fees. We have APs. When I cancelled my resort the park reservations never went away so I didn’t have to remake them. And yes we already went and came back so I know they worked.

Before you cancel you on-property reservation, you can check the park reservation availability calendar. It may help you decide if moving off property is worth it.
