Hi; being from the Caribbean, I'm not familiar or used to cold weather (even 70 degrees is kinda chilly for us). This will be our first trip during cold season (Nov. 23 - Dec. 12) with our 5 yo. DS. I am a little bit anxious about packing, especially taking adequate clothing, since I'd hate to spoil our fun by not being prepared for the cold.

I would appreciate suggestions of what to take in cold weather for people who are not used to it, while keeping our packing as light as possible (I know, too much to ask, sorry...

my best suggestion is think light but layers. Don't try to take a heavy coat, light coat, jacket, etc. Take light weight shirts, maybe two sweatshirts to put over the shirt and my favorite is a extra large sweatshirt to go on over it all if necessary. My DS was about 5 and it was a very cold year. We purchased adult sweatshirts and put it on him over his clothes. When seated, it completed covered him, when walking it was down over his knees. Very warm and not extra packing room really.

We've visited WDW during Christmas/New Year's for the past five years and the best thing I ever packed(after freezing one year) was a pair of silk long johns-top & bottom. I was able to stay warm and layer tshirt and sweatshirt on top without feeling too bulky. They take up very little room in the suitcase. I don't know if it will be that cold when you are going, but gloves and a hat might come in handy as well. Just think layers and you should be ok.

We've been during that time of year many times, and often it is warmer than most people would expect for that time of year. We lived in Phoenix for many years, and even we have gone swimming in December at WDW. I usually pack shorts and t-shirts for day time. We often change to jeans during our afternoon break. Then after dark will add a sweatshirt over our t-shirt. Every now and again my DH will wear a long sleeve shirt over his t-shirt. You might also grab a lightweight rain coat or poncho in case of wet weather, it can also be a good wind breaker in the event of a cold snap.

I'm not flaming you at all. It's just that living here in Cleveland - where our current temp on September 29th is like 54 degrees - I just can't relate! Disney in December would be heaven to me. When it hits 60 in Cleveland, people are hauling out the shorts and tank tops...

bring a polartec pullover jacket or pullover in 100 and 200 weight add a waterproof shell over it for rain or wind and your all set . they are extremely light and very warm. Also bring a hat you loose 80% of body heat through your head so wearing a hat makes a big diffence in the colder weather. We go in Dec/Jan every year and you never know. Jan 2003 was one of the coolest on record for Orlando. For us it was great but the locals were freezing. Check out the websites for LLBEAN REI LANDSEND also for sales check sierratradingpost reioutlet or campmor.
