OK, I'm about ready to take the DVC plunge, but need some input on points.

We absolutely take a 5 night Deluxe hotel trip to WDW each year. We usually also go for the occasional weekend and/or an overnight at a Mod. here and there throughout the year.

It seems like it makes more sense financially to only buy the 100 points I'd need for that 5 night trip through resale and plan on Mod. hotels for the other occasional trips. Those side trips are always in the value seasons and incorporate AP discounts.

BUT, I can also get a really good deal by buying through Disney thanks to a Friends & Family promotion. Am I right in thinking the current price is $101 per pt. at SSR? If so, I'd be paying the same per point as with resale.

I've worked the numbers and know I can afford to jump into DVC, (shoot - I've basically been financing WDW for 10 years; instead of putting money into my WDW savings fund, I'd just be putting that money toward paying off DVC.), but I'm nervous about spending more than I'll actually need.

Any opinions on this will be appreciated!

SSR is $101 a point through DVC right now. I've heard rumors of it going to $104 in March.

However, odds are you could find some deal to get it for less. If you're interested in SSR and don't have an immediate need for points in the next 4-6 weeks, I'd personally buy a resale. Those can be found in the upper $80's and will save you some cash. You get the exact same outcome, it just takes longer and you have to sweat ROFR. Though good resellers like TTS should help you understand if you're likely to beat ROFR.

If you know you want SSR and are not in a hurry, do so via resale and you'll likely save money over a deluxe resort every year in the long-term.

If you're in a rush because you need the points to book, go through DVC, consider it paying more for faster accessibility.

SSR is $91 right now thru this month with a $10 promo. The $15 friends and family is gone.

As for how many points, that's up to you. I would not want some of my trips to be DVC and others to be Moderate hotel rooms. You are going to hate "downgrading" to a hotel room. Plus with room and tax DVC will probably still beat your hotel expenses, especially in the value season.

It makes sense to me to get enough points for all the nights that you know you will need.

We bought last year after staying at BCV on cash the year before. We bought 350 points and still wish we had more!:thumbsup2

1BR are the way to go for us with a 5 year old (gets Mom & Dad some privacy:hippie: ) and weekend are more expensive than Sun-Thur. This years plan: 6 nights at OKW then 3 night at VB in May-June, weekend at VB in ocean view inn room in Oct., 3 nights studio at SSR for New Years.
SEE NEVER TOO MANY points :rotfl2:

We bought thru Disney. Easy, no hassles, no ROFR. We had a great guide and that may have been the difference, but we would not do it any other way.:cheer2:

Anyway, WELCOME HOME (in advance).:grouphug:
