Please help me figure out crowd levels for August

Hi everyone,

We are planning on taking the kids to WDW--probably next year. We want to go during the least crowded time--since we live in CA, we can't afford to go to WDW much and I want them to see as much as possible on the trip. I notice that the value season for the moderate hotels begins on August 9th. I have always thought that August would be a busy time to go. Are the crowds down during that time--I guess that I am confused as to why they would start value season during what I thought was a busy time? Any insight would be great. Thanks!

Value season starts mid August because that is the beginning of Hurricane season. Also alot of the kids in Florida are heading back to school.
We have gone to WDW at the end of August for the last three years. It is hot and very humid. When it rains it pours!! The crowds are much lighter than spring break. We have always had a fantastic time as I do not mind the rain and the humidity.

Crowds are relative. We've gone in August and considered it quite crowded compared to the times we went in early December. However, the park hours and offerings expand and contract to the crowd sizes at any given time, so there are tradeoffs in going during the absolute least crowded times of the year. For example, in August some parks were open until midnight whereas in December they may have closed at 7pm.
Also, August is extremely hot and humid, and don't look for any cooling until well after midnight. I'm talking low-mid 90's with extreme humidity (like 80 percent or more).
Not bashing August- I would gladly go again- but you should be aware of the considerations beforehand.

there are services like touringplans.com that have a crowd calendar that will give you a guide to expected wait times for major attractions at mid day in the parks.
