Will the heat at least lessen the crowds? Do the locals stay home?

I feel your disappointment as well. We were there last week and it was a bit of a vacation ruiner for us *because* our small children couldn't handle it. If you are going to be with older kids or adults, I think you'll do just fine. Had I been there without tiny kids, I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

One thing, we refilled bottles at drinking fountains, but my kids hated how the water tasted. If that is a problem you run into, maybe go for the ice water at restaurants. And FYI, the fountains just inside the BTMBBQ waiting area has the coldest water we found.

Just so ya'll know, you can get free ice water at any counter service place, unless they've changed something from what I've read prior on this board.
