Hey i'm looking for opinions on our next world trip. Please bear with me as this may be a long one.
We have been to the world many times (we come from Scotland) and usually stay offsite in LBV with the occasional night onsite using DVC rental. For our next trip (Sept/Oct2016) we will be travelling with my parents. They have never stayed on site but love where we go offsite (we love eating offsite and its a walk to the crossroads) so I suggested we do 7 and 7.
7 nights in our usual offsite condo and 7 nights onsite renting points. One of the main reasons i suggested this is mum has medical conditions that make her tired easily and affect her mobility depending on pain levels, don't get me wrong she doesn't need (or want) a scooter but she needs to take it easy and have the option to dip out of activities. So I feel onsite will take away the pressure of her not wanting to 'ruin' our day by leaving early as we all came in the car. (of course this is NOT a problem but I know it will stop her saying she needs to go)
They don't want to spend all 14 nights on site so that's out.
I have two options......

Option 1:

Stay offsite for the first 7 days at LBV in the usual 3 bed condo
then..
Spend the next 7 in either BW(their preference) or AKL in 2x studios (2 bed doesn't work out economically based on option 2 so bear with me) renting points with one of the companies
Roughly based on todays exchange rates would be £1790($2774) per couple including disney tickets.
Needs paid upfront Oct 2015

Option 2:

Book direct with Disney for 7 nights OKW in a 2 bed with free dining(normal plan) and $100 gift card
then..
7 nights off site in the usual spot.
Based on todays costings thats £2170.50pc ($3363) including disney tickets.
Doesn't need to be paid until Aug 2016

Here's the dilemma....the resorts are totally different in location, layout etc.
Will we eat the difference in cost in meals in 7 days? ($295 per person)
Also for option 2 to work we MUST do disney first as we cannot access tickets early if we book packages, will that be a comedown or a welcome relaxation?

I will add we do travel about, go to universal, kennedy etc

You will EASILY eat more than $295 per person in a 7 day stretch, assuming you mix in some TS restaurants.

Option 2, are you in studios whether you are at BWV or AKV? If yes, then that might more heavily influence your decision. Studios will have only small refrigerators, a microwave, and plasticware/dispo plates; the 2BR at OKW has a full kitchen. We tend to have small meals and cocktails/wine in the room, plus store left-overs from TS meals for later dining. For those reasons, we wouldn't consider a studio for more than a weekend; we prefer the full kitchen.

That said, we LOVE BWV's location. With your mom's mobility issues, being that close to two parks is hard to beat!

That is a tough call!
I prefer the location of the Boardwalk, especially if your mom need to go back and relax. It just can't be beat.
But, I would totally spend more than that on food ($295 per person for a week) when you consider you're getting a TS meal per day. So, in essence, it is likely saving you money.
Starting off at Disney, then moving to your LBV hotel may be a good option. After the move over, you can take a couple of days off Disney to do the other things you mention (Kennedy, etc...) and eat at different close spots at DTD and elsewhere.
If it were me, I'd lean toward OKW (even though I love the Boardwalk).

Sorry I should have said if we do the BWV/AKL it will be 2 studios rather than a 2bed as the cost difference is substantial.
I have never been to OKW but have stayed at BW and AKL so it's the unknown too.
Only thing about BW is the length of walk to get anywhere even if you have a fairly central room. Most of the touring plans room chooser lists don't fall into the under 7 minute walk section, which defeats the purpose of mom needing the location.
Why is it so tough to decide? You'd think I was deciding something in parliament lol!

I rather go to Scotland myself! Been too many years since last visit and need to get busy planning another!!

In my personal opinion, I always do an offsite stay before I do an onsite stay. In your mother's case, she can get used to the traveling and for the rest of you, if you have to miss something before your mother needs to leave, you can make it up later.

Then, do the Boardwalk as you will have easy access to Epcot and the Studios (if anything is left there) and your mother can enjoy her time at the Boardwalk when she needs to. She can enjoy the pools and maybe walking around on her own, at her own speed, around Crescent Lake. Or, she can simply go for a ride on the Friendship boats along the canal. If you have park hoppers and are at the Magic Kingdom and she needs a break, she can get on the monorail and go to Epcot, then slowly walk back to the International Gateway and over to the Boardwalk.

Thank you all for your input :) I took all the info to them and they chose the OKW option so that is what we booked last night :)

Least I have plenty time to decide what table service we want. Mum and dad have only eaten at one restaurant in disney and one in downtown disney so it's all new for them. Lots of time on food blog and the boards coming up :)
