Veterans of WDW, this will be our 1st trip to DL. We are going the last week of May which is also Memorial Day weekend and we want to stay at the Disneyland Hotel. Should I go ahead and reserve the hotel now or does DL usually release discounted room only rates for early summer? If so, when do they usually release the summer rates? Thanks!!!

With the 60th Anniversary kicking off May 22nd, I highly doubt you'll find any discounts.

Discounts like WDW are rare for Disneyland. If you find a room/rate you are happy with book it. If you find a better rate later, cancel and re-book at the lower rate.

As a veteran of WDW, I highly recommend taking a look at HydroGuy's DLR Guide for WDW Vets:

As others have mentioned, May 22 (the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend) is the official kick-off for the 60th Anniversary celebration. The parks will be debuting a new parade, fireworks show, WoC, merchandise, and other things that weekend, so expect high crowds and few hotel discounts. It would probably be worth keeping an eye on the What to Expect for the 60th Anniversary thread as well.

Along with the 60th Anniversary Celebration starting May 22, Disney just announced that May 22 will also be their 24 Hour Day. Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure will both be open for 24 hours. So Memorial Day weekend, Disney's 60th Anniversary Celebration, and the 24 Hour event = A LOT more guests in the parks. I have a good feeling that hotel rooms will book up very quickly.

24 hour event? Omg!
That + a Friday + memorial day weekend + the beginning of the 60th Anniversary event
= sensory overload.
Be prepared for many a park guest, that is for certain. Exciting elements, but most definitely a very busy little beaver day and night and day too. :faint:

Wow! Just wow!
