We just recieved a letter from Thomas Cook today advising us that there is now building works at the GF (which MAY affect our holiday). They are willing to relocate us if we want and refund any difference!

Does anyone know how "bad" the building works are and if we should move?

It's not likely that the Poly or CR will have availability and we wanted to stay at a Monorail resort!!!

I was so excited when I saw the envelope as I though our tickets were here!!!!!

I can't help with your question, but wanted to say -sorry to hear about that+i hope you can get something sorted. They did'nt give you much notice did they!!!!.x.

we have stayed at resorts while work going on,and never had a problem, but outhers have,we would try and get poly or contempory as the longer you leave it the harder to get it,you can only try.there contacting you to cover themselfs dont forget, what if you got there and they never told you
also would try posting on the resorst section of these boards
Finaly all the resorts sooner ar later have work done on them to keep them up to standard, most work is done while your at the parks so might not afect you.dont have visions of them wakeing you up at 6am with a hammer dril like in spain
Hope you get sorted

I agree with Paul don't wait too long to sort it out.x.

would only say there would be a problem if the pool is shut,we have only ever moved when a pool was shut
And proberly reason thy have only just contacted you is disney have only just informed them.they dont annouce referbs untill there about to start soon

How annoying. I would call the hotel directly and check with them for the latest info. It's a big hotel and the chances are it won't affect all the rooms (unless it is the pool, then may cause more of a problem) If it was me I would still go, especially if I had been so looking forward to staying in that hotel. TA has to advise you, but sometimes it can be really minor. Last year my sister stayed at All Stars and 2 wks before were told main pool was shut and couldn't get a room in any other value property. They went, determined not to let it spoil the holiday that they had been looking forward to for 18m. When they got there, pool was already finished and has re-opened 2 days before they arrived!!!:confused3

We stayed at AKL in Feb after we had recieved a note about building works in relation to the new vacation club. The work on the hotel had just about finished apart from the new building across the savanah. It did not effect us at all, never heard a thing. Reading previous threads regarding building work it seemed work done at Disney properties was always done very discreatly and if problems did arise they would move guests, but this was on rare occasions. Going on past experience, i do not think you will have any problems. However I do'nt know what work is going on. I'm sure someone will know.

i think from what i read they are doing works to th elobby and staircase

Check where the works are & request a building away from them if possible - shame if you have to move. My DH would love to stay there.

I think i'll ring in the morning and check if they can get us in Poly or Cont and then make a decision.

US GF thread says they are doing something to a marble floor but my letter says resoration works at Big Pine Key?

We stayed at AKL when they were constructing the works on the DVC properties there and can honestly say I never even noticed.

We spent very little time in the resort but did have a couple of days around the pool. To this day I have no idea were these villas are located which shows the impact it made on our holiday.

Hope it works out for you what ever you decide to do

We stayed at the CR last year in a room overlooking where they are building the new tower and never heard a peep. We also spent a full day at AKL while the building works were supposed to be really bad and again heard very little noise.

It really depends on how much time you think you will spend in the resort and where your room is in relation to the works. If worrying about the possibility of noise is going to ruin your holiday then I would say get yourself moved. Other than that keep an eye on the Resort board here, find out where the work is going on and a few days before you go e-mail the GF and ask for a room away from the works.

Managed to find this bit of information:

"Aug. 15, 2008: Lodge Building 9 Big Pine Key exterior refinish. Guests will see and hear the painters outside the building. Work will be performed using lifts from the perimeter of the building. The painting crew will need to access balconies to perform the job, which also includes balcony ceiling repairs in addition to painting. Guests will be notified via letter and an in-room voicemail that the painting crew will need access to their balconies during this period"

Hope that helps :)

If you wa<!-- #EndEditable -->nt to contact the resort direct phone and fax numbers are:

The phone number is 00 1 407-824-3000, and the fax number is 00 1 407-824-3186
