Okay, I made ressies for our first ever trip for Mar 3-7. That's my college spring break. I happened to look at my school calendar (shame on me for not doing it earlier) and realized that my semester ends on 3 May (with summer classes starting after Memorial Day); I didn't know my classes end that early. It's a good thing, really it is. ;)

But now I'm rethinking the whole March trip. We could go in May instead (I'm thinking the week of 5-9). I have a 7th grader but he's in a virtual academy which offers flexibility (he already worked 5 days over the long holiday break to make up for the week at WDW in March), and my other son is in PreK, so pulling the kids out of school won't be an issue either way.

What I need to know is ... What are the advantages/disadvantages of going in March and May? I've heard the crowds during the time I planned to go in March are "moderate" and the room rate was listed at the peak season's price. 5-9 May would be regular season, so it'd be a little cheaper. What else do I need to consider?

Thank you so, so much for all your advice! I've appreciated all of it so far!

May can have a lot hotter temps.

You've done the prep work for March.

Stay the course.

We go in March every year, and will be going in May for the first time. I generally do a LOT of research before I choose WHICH week in March we'll go, to avoid Easter, Spring Break masses, etc. The crowds are generally managable (we make sure we're at park opening each day) and we go with a plan. temps are very comfortable and we rarely got rain. Having to trvael in May this year wasn't our choice. I am expecting slightly lower crowds but much higher temps and humidity.
I agree with Robo... since you're put the time into March planning, I'd stick with it. Just go there with a plan (especially for morning touring) and you'll have a great time... with less stress of re-planning everything!

I also plan to go at spring break time. (March 8-14) However, if I had the choice, I would go in May. I can't go in May because this will be the time when the kids will be tested and we are in to softball. We would miss several games. DH does not go along with missing any games. I have several friends who went at the beginning of May and all said that they walked on to every ride almost.

Good luck with all your planning. It is very addictive.

You've already planned for March, and your son has already made up his work (or at least put a dent in it). I agree with Robo...stay the course!

I don't know but Summer is a great time to go because everything is open.

Is this made up for this year , or last year? If you don;t already have everything booked(meals, itinerary etc) Then going in May would have an extra 2 months to plan. I would think May would be a nice way to end your Classes plus it might not be as busy. Mid Feb to Mid APril is Peak season and your rates will be higher, so you could save money by going in Mar.

Thanks for all the responses. Of course I had to go and ask dh, lol. He said that if it were up to him, he'd go in early May. He's usually so easy going and laid back that, for him to express an opinion either way, I definitely need to take it into consideration. If I had asked him first, I wouldn't have asked here first, kwim? Doh! Anyway, after having looked at park hours, I think we'd be able to make the most out of our trip going then, as opposed to March.

The only planning I've actually done was make the room package ressies (I opted for the dining plan but am now thinking of upgrading it to deluxe dining so there would be NO oop expenses in the World except for tips, but I don't know if it's worth the extra money). I just hammered out ideas for ADRs but haven't called them in yet. Keep in mind, the idea to go just came to me on New Year's Eve, so I guess I'm still in the early planning stage (although March is just around the corner, it seems).

As for weather, we live in central GA, and before this we lived in South Carolina and San Antonio TX. Heat and humidity are not new to us, so I don't think we'll have a problem w/early May weather.

As for my son's school ... All that matters to the academy is that we meet the 180-day requirement (and the hourly requirement per day/5 days a week). The exact days he has school are extremely flexible. We've been sticking w/Mon-Fri, but technically we could do Tues-Sat or any other 5-day combination if we wanted. I've been anticipating taking a vacation somewhere sometime this spring but hadn't decided on when/where, so I went ahead and had him do 5 days of school during the academy's "suggested" (but not mandatory) winter break. As of right now, he technically has an attendance of 5 days more than the school requirement right now, but once we take our vacation he'll be even with his peers at the academy. Does that make sense?

I feel so USED.

I am so, so sorry! Honestly, the guy usually doesn't have an opinion (his usual words when I ask him his thoughts are "I have no opinion."), so I don't know why I asked him this time.

If you are going to enjoy some warm weather after a frigid winter (like us in Michigan), I'd go in March. (I'll be there this year with my college DD)

But if you are going primarily to tour the parks, my choice would definitely be early May over March.
