Please help - how to get from Emerald Island to MK?

I'm still trying to get a feel for the area before our trip this Friday. We'll be staying at EI, getting in late Friday night, and heading to the MK on Saturday morning. I understand the Sherberth Road shortcut to AK, and the general "take 192 East to World Drive" regular way.

But when I mapquest EI to MK, it sends me the other way! 192 west to 429 North. I've never heard this mentioned, and it sounds like from there I'm taking a lot of little roads by the Palm/Magnolia golf course to kind of get in the back way.

Is this a regular way to get in or am I going to have a problem? Would you recommend taking Sherberth road instead, or just going 192 right to World Drive, or is this actually the best way to go? I don't even see these roads they have you taking on my Orlando map, which makes me a bit nervous.

For those familiar with the area, the roads it lists to take after you get off on exit 6 from 429 are Western Way, Bear Island Road, Floridian Way, and Seven Seas Drive.

Way out of your way if you ask me.

This is the new highway between Oak Island and Emerald Island. I personally would use and always use Sherberth Rd.

That is the new western way entrance to Disney. We stayed at Grand Palms in May (lindfields section of 192) and took the new 429 toll road to the western way entrance. It is wonderful. There is no traffic at all. The new entrance comes in beside CSR. Once you exit off 192 onto 429 you immediately go thru a $1 toll then exit to the right onto Western Way. As soon as you exit on Western Way you see the Disney arches. Continue straight until you come to CSR. From there follow the signs to which park you are heading to. You'll get a good view of the backside of Expedition Everest on the way. Even though there is no traffic on this road, DO NOT SPEED. Police are everywhere.

We really enjoyed this way in and will never take Sherberth or World Drive again.

I agree that it does look longer for any of the other parks, but it's good to know that it's a low traffic way around 192. I'm following what you're saying FLA NUT on how to get over by Coronado, but Mapquest then has me cutting up before ever getting to that intersection via the smaller roads. Should I try that or just take the bigger roads (ie stay on Western Way) if I go that way? Thanks!

By the time you get out to 192 and onto 429, paid the toll, and got off on Western Way...you'd be halfway to whatever park already going the other way.

If you still want to go that way:
From EI turn LEFT. At the 4 way intersection turn RIGHT (Lindfields) take to the end at 192. Turn RIGHT. The entrance to 429 is 3 lights up I believe. When you get off Western Way you are right next to Coronado Springs. Make a LEFT and follow the signs for the parks

To go from Sherberth or 192
From EI turn RIGHT- go to 4 way intersection. Turn LEFT. Take to the light. Turn RIGHT. at the next light turn LEFT onto Sherberth OR continue on 192 down 3 lights and take the exit marked Disney World.

I'm not familiar with the exact location of Emerald Island. Grand Palms is at the end of Lindfields next to 192 so this way was more convenient for us. Try both ways when you get there and pick the best one for you.

When you exit off the toll road to western way you continue straight until you get to CSR. Then as the previous poster said, follow the signs to the park you are heading too. The road names you mentioned are some of the Disney "backroad" names that I remember seeing along the way.

When we stayed in EI in April, we used Sherbert Rd to get to all Disney parks. It was fast and easy!
