I was advised to post here.... thanks in advance for your time!!

Hello All,

my brother is on his way to Disney and just realized his license is expired...... he did not renew before he left Tallahassee.

Does anyone have any experience with this? He will have to show ID for FL resident tickets.... will they accept expired DL and for how long?

Thanks...

I can't believe he (of all people) did this!!.....

Umm....he can renew online still I believe and print out a receipt showing that he did. Maybe if he shows that receipt and the expired license the CM will accept? I just don't know, but good luck.

I'm not bashing, but how could he not know his license is expired? It's something I pay CLOSE attention to. The police in our area don't take too kindly to expired licenses.

I totally agree!!! He was to busy planning... it expired last week!! He cannot renew online due to him already renewing online last time...:confused3

I have given him a hard time... He is always sooo on top of these things.... I think he completely forgot...not sure what caused him to remember an hour into his trip.

Thank you so much for your help...

To make things worse.. his best friend is in LE! LOL

too busy?!?! they give you your renewal notice months in advance?! My son's will expire in Sept. We got his renewal notice the beginning of June! Sorry, but something doesn't sound right. You mean to tell me he has been busy that long to the point of letting it expire. I hope he knows he now will have to pay extra to renew it.
To answer your question, I do believe it must be a current DL, not expired. Expired can mean that the person is no longer in the State.

Due to the RealID act, you can't do this anymore. You have to actually go to the DMV with a passport, birth certificate, SS, etc. Such a pain.

Anyway, I believe there are other ways to prove FL residency. Does he have a car registration or anything like that? Maybe Cheshire can chime in with the exact requirements. :)

Really people? It was an oversight! He forgot to do it - big deal! Especially if it was last week. I know they send reminders early - but that is a detriment to me! Too much time in advance and it gets set aside.

All he can do is ask right? Can't he go to another DL issuer in the Disney area to renew?

another thought just crossed my mind, why on earth is worried about Disney! He should be getting off of I-75 and going to the nearest DL Bureau to renew now. Forget will Disney accept it, he is driving illegally, isn't he? I would be more concerned about what the State Troopers/FHP would think than what Disney would. Instead of having you research this for him on here, he should have had you getting him the address of the nearest office for him to drive to. I don't mean to sound harsh, just realistic. :goodvibes

hate to tell you this, but when something is illegal, it is a big deal, and that has nothing to do with Disney. Driving with an expired DL is illegal. :confused3 Try asking FHP what the big deal is when you get pulled over and your DL is expired.. see what they say....:sad2:

I can see how I'd personally forget when my Dl expires. I only have to renew every 4 yrs and Ohio doesn't send you anything as reminder I guess.

Ummmm again really? You have no idea he is the one driving!

you are correct I don't, but I am sure he does drive and probably has in the last week.. .illegally. As OP stated, her brother left for Disney, I am taking it as he is driving. OP did not state he was with anyone, how do we know he is not the driver or will be driving. Sorry, but you aren't going to win this argument here, beside the fact, it does need to be a current DL as proof. You cannot go with an expired.
It clearly states it on their website.. "valid" and valid doesn't mean expired ;)

Valid Florida driver's license

I don't have any idea, but sorry he's going through this! Mine expired in 2009 while I was in Kansas visiting family. Never got ANY kind of renewal notice in the mail (my DH did the year before when his expired).

Things happen. Get off the grumpy cloud and say something constructive, don't just bash people. Jeez. :scared1: These boards are getting nasty lately.

Get over yourself please! You make it sound like he robbed a bank! Ge forgot to renew his drivers license and "may" or "may not" have driven in the ladr week.

Seriously? You make it sound like he should be on the FBI's most wanted list!

I'm sure he can get something else to prove himself a FLorida resident - an online print out of electricity bill showy ing the address? Something. There is a list of acceptable items.

I'm not trying to win any fight - I just see no need to string him up in the square!

Maybe the DMV site can help you get accurate information about how to renew an expired license.

an expired DL isnt a big deal if you get pulled over, the cop will give you a warning and tell you to take care of it.. its only a big deal if you have a suspended one

Really people. She just asked a question. Answer it if you know the answer, but don't start bashing people about forgetting to renew. I have known people that have forgotten for almost a year, and they are not in jail. If they are pulled over and do not have a current license, they may get a ticket, or a warning to go renew it. Not everyone in this world is perfect, we all forget sometimes.
