I was hoping to arrange a 1-bedroom villa at Grand Californian for 5 nights but the time we wanted is not available. We are looking for a nice hotel/resort (as opposed to a motel), need 1-bedroom because I am traveling with 3 small children 6, 4 and 1 and don't sleep well with them AND within walking distance for convenience of little legs and mid-day breaks. A 1-bedroom is available at Paradise Pier but I know from reading many folks believe that hotel is not worth it, any other suggestions or input would be great:) Thanks!

Have you tried the DLH yet? At the kids ages they would love staying there for all the disney touches. If you were already planning on staying onsite then this seems like the most logical choice.

A hotel not motel within walking distance...the only ones I can think of are the three DLR properties...there is also the HoJo which has a great pool area for kids but I consider it to be at the outer edge of "walking distance" with small kids.

I second the PP who said look at the DLH.

If motel-style lodging is out AND you want a true suite AND you want something within walking distance, your options are pretty limited. You can have two of the three with no problem, but all three are few and far between.

All three Disney hotels will have one-bedroom suites. I honestly don't hear many people complain about the Paradise Pier, and most people actually rave about the theme-park view rooms. The grounds and pool area aren't anywhere close to as impressive as the other two on-site properties, but they are certainly adequate and a step above most of the walking-distance off-site hotels.

In terms of off-site hotels, the Hojo is probably your best choice. It has kids suites, but they have bunk beds in the kids room, which might not be ideal with the ages of your kiddos. It also has a water play area, that would be a huge hit with kids, as well as a "normal" pool. I think it's your best option off-property in terms of the criteria you've set out. It is the most "resort like" of the bunch, and has interior hallways.

Pretty much everything else on Harbor has motel-style exterior doors. Many have some very nice suite options, but are not anything close to "resort style." They're clean. They're close (many are even closer than the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier). They have suites. But no one would mistake them for a resort hotel.

I think the Desert Palms has indoor hallways and suites. I wouldn't call it "resort style" in the least, but it does have a pool and I think breakfast. Never stayed there before, and it's at the limit of what I would consider walking distance.

The Anabella has some great suite options, but it's motel-style. Honestly, though, the grounds are lovely, the pool is decent, and I've had two great stays there. Definitely walking distance if you cut through the lobby of the Grand Californian and out into Downtown Disney.

The Residence Inn is also not what I would call easy walking distance, but many people do walk. Lots of suite options, but exterior doors. Right on the ART transit if you don't want to walk.

In all honestly, those are the only options that I would say meet the criteria you specified. There just aren't many "resort style" options around the parks (It's a major difference from WDW for sure). Clean, comfortable accommodations abound, but they're just not "resorts" in the traditional sense of the word.

My family and I LOVE the PPH. A view room is INCREDIBLE! I would look into PPH and DLH.

Next closest is the Hilton, and they don't have dedicated suites, it's more like one big room I think. And the walk is FAR. I think Fairfield Inn has suites. And there is a new Springhill Suites somewhere off Ball I believe(Someone correct me if I am wrong)-but not sure how long of a walk that would be.

Going off site, you wont be able to meet all 3 of your criteria. My vote off site would be Carousel Inn in a Resort suite or Kids Suite. It doesn't meet the hotel requirement. But it is very nice over all and one of my picks when staying off site.

I found Paradise Pier very nice and affordable. I would also suggest the DLH.

We've stayed at the Paradise Pier many times and it is a perfectly fine hotel! I don't know who you are talking to or where you are reading that it's not up to par, but I assure you it's great. They have a wonderful character breakfast too, your kids will be thrilled to see all the main characters, and they spend time interacting with them, unlike some other busy places.

We've never stayed in the 1 bedroom suites, but I've seen pictures online, and they look great! We have however stayed in several rooms, the views from the higher floors are amazing! We have also done concierge, which is a very nice option as well. Lastly, I love how close it is to the private entrance at the Grand to get into DCA. It's one of my favorite things to do-to stroll through the Grand lobby!

This time just to try something different, we are booked at the DLH. I look forward to trying a new place! We plan on doing Goofy's Kitchen & probably Steakhouse 55, so it's a great location for that.

Good luck with your decision, I'm sure you'll find something that suits you. They just announced 20% off on premium view, concierge type rooms for certain dates, not sure about suites though.

You might want to look into 2 adjoining rooms for the PPH. I priced out a suite for July and it was a lot more money than 2 adjoining rooms. Plus, you would get 4 queen beds and 2 couches that turn into beds vs 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper in a suite. Good luck with your decision.

That's some wonderful info from NiceOneSimba.:cheer2:

I'm an onsite girl and love the DLH. I have never stayed at PP but I think you would probably like that one also. Onsite would be my first choice and the suites at the DLH have never disappointed me.

Not sure what your budget is, but ........ we also stayed at the Marriott on convention way once and it was nice. They have a two connecting room option that seems like it was around $250.00, but parking is an add on and it is probably not within walking distance.

Old key west is nice. And animal kingdom lodge is amazing. I suggest you go on youtube and look up some hotels in Disney. But those 2 are really nice. I stayed at old key west for a night and it was great. My friend stays at animal kingdom lodge and says that the beds are comfy, and the view Is great.

Those are at WDW. This is for DLR. :)

I do know that some offsite hotels there have deals for Disney. But I don't know much about on property as every time I'm there I'm off property. My family and I went and there was 7 of us and we rented a big van and rented a house it was really fun
