I was wondering if anyone knew what I can do about an unwanted caller??

In the last 24 hours I have had a woman call my house 9 times at all hours of the day, including 1:15am, 1:20am & 1:23am last night!

She gives her name, which when I searched her phone number it did come up what she said it was & she lives in the next town, about 20 minutes away. At first she kept saying it was an emergency but wouldn't say what the emergency was. Then on other calls she says she's a former member of the Supremes & wants to donate money to us.

I don't think it's a prank call... I think she's literally insane! :sad2:

Is there anything I can do?? I don't want to bother the police, 'cause it's not an emergency & I don't quite know what they could do about it. If I don't answer she hangs up when the machine picks up & calls back, over & over.

I just don't know what to do??? :confused3

TIA!

Call your phone company and see if they offer call blocking service. It's a GREAT thing. You just dial it up and you can have it block either a specific number or the number of the last person that called. I've used it many times, mostly for telemarketers, or idiots that haven't figured out they've dialed the wrong number 37 times, despite telling them so.

You may just have to take your phone off of the hook. Or call the operator and block the call.

Great minds think alike. We were all posting the same thing at the same time. :thumbsup2

If she's unstable, i'd call the cops... or go to the ploice station in person if you don't want to bother them.

Yes, call the police about this and give them all the information you have. She is in a crisis and even though you might not think it is that serious it could be. Call them now.

Cops are there for more than just emergencies. At the very least they could give you some advice on what you can do. And just remember, as easily as you looked her number up online, she can look you up online by your phone number and find your address. That would be enough for me to call the non-emergency line of my local police dept.

it sounds like this lady needs some help. At the very least she is confused and disoriented. Call the local police and make a report. Someone needs to check on her and the police can assess the situation and get the right help involved if needed.:hippie:

It could be an emergency for her. I would definitely call the police. They could at least check on her and tell her to stop calling. Believe me, they've been called for far more trivial things.

ITA. Do call your local police department non-emergency number and explain the situation. They really need to drop in and make sure she is okay or contact one of her relatives. You are probably doing her a big favor in the long run.

Thats why the police have non emergency phone numbers. :) This is a legitimate reason to call.

Years ago we had a wacky neighbor move in next door. Her husband died and she became unglued. She kept calling saying we were shooting lasers at her house! Then she came over and accused my mom of keeping bad men in our basement! Finally I guess her family realized what was going on and they moved her in with one of them and sold the house.

Sounds like my fight with the yellowbook. They keep calling to "update my yellowbook ad". Last year I updated it 3 times before I figured out it was a scam. I must have got 20 more calls like that. All from India or wherever. Now I just hang up. Its easier.

as a past police dispatcher and a current Sheriffs Officer I suggest making the call. Call the non-emerg. line (same dispatcher will answer both emerg and non-emerg) but at least they can place you on hold should another emerg. come in. They will take your info and dispatch the next aval officer so long as there is nothing else pending. They may even take your info and do the report over the phone and contact the neighboring dept. where she lives and infom them. One or two calls you could brush off, but several at such inappropriate times needs attention. Let us know how you make out.

Okay, so just after I posted this my dad happened to call & I was telling him about it. He called a friend of his who is nypd. Long story short he said to do everything you guys said...

He said I need to call the phone company tomorrow & block her number as well as call my local police dept. The police will then call her to see if everything is okay & to let her know she needs to stop calling unless she wants to face harassment charges.

He said that this is very common & that she probably lives alone & is not quite right (I don't remember the word he used for it). He said that after she made first contact with me, that whenever she needs to talk to someone she probably hits redial & that's why it's always me & always a different story.

I'll let you guys know how this all plays out...

Thanks for the info! I always feel like such a bother to call law enforcement unless it's something like life & death. I guess I never really thought that that is what they are there for.

Thanks! :)
