Please Help -- Concierge & non-guests?

Aren't there Many,many other places at AKL for the grandparents to visit? I agree with the snarky folks......only those folks paying for these services should be in the Concierge Lounge.

Let me get this straight-it's okay for me to spend (let's use any number) $200 a night for a standard room at the Beach Club and have a family member visit for a few hours. But, it's not alright for me to spend $300 for concierge and have the benefit of having the same family member visit in the lounge for an hour or two. Many of you seem to be visualizing freakish, unmannered relatives who hover madly around the dessert table in the concierge lounge. I'm simply talking about having a cup of tea in the lounge before going outside to chat. My mother-in-law chatted with the staff on the way out and thanked them for a delightful time. The staff didn't mind a bit that she had come to visit and were very gracious.

I'm sure your mother was a gracious guest...who only had a 50 cent cup of tea.......that's not saying other folks might not be as well behaved.

That's right. The concierge services are only for paying guests. The lounges only have a limited amount of space. Should people paying $400+/night have to take their desserts or whatever back to their room because non-paying friends and relatives decide to "come and visit"?

I imagine this is another case where people that don't have a problem with it are the ones taking their friends/relatives to the lounges.

I have not stayed concierge, but I do not think I would be happy to find "guests" or relatives of people staying concierge in the lounge. I would think it is for paying patrons only. However, what would be wrong with having your guests for tea in some of the public areas of the hotel. I have stayed mostly at WL, but I would think my relatives would be perfectly happy in the lobby or one of the other little places with sofas, etc. I am sure AKL must have places like these. Non-guests should not take up space if the lounge area of AKL is as small as people say it is - and it would probably be extra crowded over a holiday.

AKL has a very nice and comfortable lobby with a lot of cushy leather sofas arranged in small seating groups. We saw many groups of people sitting there and talking/resting, etc. in the times we've been to AKL. They also have several savannah viewing areas with rustic wood chairs and rocking chairs. That's a more quiet place where people might be focused on watching the animals, but during non-viewing times, they'd be good places to visit too.

Going Concierge in two weeks...Woohoo!!

I wouldn't ask any CM, I would ask the Concierge staff. Who knows if they have different "restrictions" at different times of year. I doubt that any non-concierge guests can get into the lounge when it's crowded. I don't doubt that they let people visit when the lounge is near empty, nice advertising tool for WDW.

If you are uncomfortable with the non-conciegre guests it is well within your rights to complain.

Yes, jdads2 you can ask for a tour. That's what we did.

It really depends on when you are thinking about having them visit. In the peak morning and evening times, when seating is already at a premium, then no, it really wouldn't be fair to the other guests for them to visit with you then. I'm sure I do'nt need to mention that it would be inappropriate for them to partake of the concierge lounge food and beverage services if theyaren't registered, paying guests. But in the afternoon as a place to sit and chat while the kids colored, the staff would likely be OK with it.

Is there any reason that the grandchildren cannot visit the grandparents at the YC? That would solve everything. I agree with Anne that it would be inapropriate for them to eat or drink anything at concierge as they are not paying concierge guests. Although I would feel the same way whether it was crowded or not. I'm sure if the intent is just to see the grandparents then you would be more then happy to take them to the YC and see them there.

I just had one thing to add. I have never stayed concierge at WDW but I would hope that they do not allow non paying guests to use the concierge lounge or services no matter how busy they are or aren't. My reasoning is where would it stop? If word got out, and yes it can easily now with all the internet boards, then everyone would be taking advantage of it. How many families do you think will book one room concierge for some of their family or friends and a lower cost room for the rest of them. I know when we take all the kids, we always get two rooms. How much cheaper it would be for me to book one room at the Contemporary for me and two kids and DH and another kid goes concierge at the Poly. That way I can "visit" the kids and DH over at the concierge lounge. I'm not saying this is the OPs intent at all. I'm just saying that things can snowball and someone reading this thread would easily get ideas on doing it themselves for very different reasons then the OP. I do not think it is fair to the paying guests at all to let anyone in the lounge that hasn't paid that concierge fee. Why pay for special things if someone else can get them for free?

<p>skiwee1, If you're refering to my scenario, we are going above and beyond the normal policy. If we chose to do so we could, by Disney policy, have the third adult stay in our room. If you check the rates and capacity the room is for 5, two adults and two children, with a third adult running the additional charge. We are paying the additional charge and have provided advanced notice to the concierge staff to do so. That being said I don't know why you would make the above comment. The third adult just so happens to desire another room as the children will not give her a second to breath while she is with them. </p>
<P>For the $28 a day for the third adult, I gain the peace of mind knowing that I have complied with the rules. We just have more space available to us. Actually, I'm absolutely certain I've done my best to respect policy and the other people at our resort. </p>

Exactly skiwee1. If you look at the thread on the theme parks board about the cancellation of the AP lounges the Orlando Sentinal article says one of the reasons is because of non-AP holders or AP holders bringing in many guests.

Haven't been to that thread today so I am not sure what the new developments could be.

Even the YC requires the use of wristbands for their pool why????

Actually to each his own but I can understand the other point of view since I have not been able to park at my resort of find a chair at the pool because of this.

No I'm not referring to your scenario. I didn't even know what your scenario was. LOL~! Honestly! Did you say something about it in this thread? Okay, I just went back and found your post. I didn't read all the posts yet so I had missed yours. As far as your situation, you are paying an additional fee. That would be an option for the OP then.
